Troitskaya GRES - the basis of the South Urals energy industry

The names of many power generating stations are preceded by the abbreviation of GRES. The overwhelming majority believes that an ordinary hydroelectric power station is hidden under it, however, this opinion is erroneous. According to encyclopedias, the state district power station is a state district power station, and has nothing to do with water. Such utilities operate on any fuel and produce only electricity. The first Russian district power plant was built in 1914, near Moscow. It was built by the engineer Klasson, worked on local peat and provided 15-megawatt power. Typical state district power stations, developed in the USSR, had much more impressive performance, which reached 2,400 megawatts. Over the years, the abbreviation has practically lost its original meaning. Now this term is called a very powerful condensing power plant, included in a common power grid. One of such stations is the Troitskaya GRES.

This power plant, owned by OGK-2, is considered one of the largest power plants in the South Urals. This key value was due to its location. Built in the Chelyabinsk region, near the city of Troitsk, GRES turned out to be the nearest neighbor of the Magnitogorsk industrial hub. This neighborhood has led to the fact that the demand for electricity generated by the station is constantly increasing.

Troitskaya GRES operates on coal, which is considered the main fuel of the station. The bulk of the fuel is made up of coal from the Ekibastuz field. Fuel is used as a secondary fuel at the energy company. The base capacity of the station is equal to 2059 megawatts, and for its needs it takes only about seven percent of this energy. The Troitskaya GRES consists of eight power units, however, the most outstanding part of it is a pipe recognized as the highest on the earth. Another "landmark" was the Russian-Kazakh border, which runs directly through the station. The GRES itself is still in Russia, while its ash dumps are located in Kazakhstan.

The Troitskaya GRES was built for several decades. The initial version of the station, built in the 1960s, produced 255 megawatts of electricity. At the same time, in the sixties, the second stage was built, which provided 834 megawatts capacity. The erection of the third stage was in the seventies. After this update, the amount of electricity generated by GRES increased by 970 megawatts. This The performance of the station is maintained even now. Another pulverized power unit will be added to the power plant's assets in 2014, while the capacity of the power company will increase by 600 megawatts.

Like other power plants in Russia, the Trinity Power Plant takes care of the cleanliness of the environment. For example, the ash produced by the station is practically free of heavy metals. In addition, the management of Troitskaya GRES has adopted an environmental program, thanks to which modern dust and gas cleaners have been installed at two station units, significantly reducing the level of harmful emissions.
