Triton: an animal for the aquarium and terrarium

The aquarium has long been an integral part of many "living corners" in the apartments of those people who miss the real nature. The abundance of all kinds of fish that inhabit them has long ceased to amaze. And if the aquarium has a newt? The animal is not only extremely unusual, but also very beautiful, so you can rightfully boast it to your friends.

Some mistakenly believe that the newt at home requires some special care. But this is far from being the case, after all, even novice aquarium lovers can take care of them! The error lies in the fact that we know very little about newts. Why? This is because during the day these animals practically do not show their eyes, hiding in various shelters.

Despite the fact that the newt - amphibian is very common (up to a third of all species in the middle band), you can see it in the daytime only by accident. Their wintering takes place in a state of stupor, and for their hibernation they often choose old mink rodents, which are located near water bodies. Despite the secrecy, the newt is an animal that can decorate any aquarium. In nature, they are widely distributed throughout Europe, sometimes even entering the lakes of cold Norway. In Russia, they are distributed almost throughout the entire middle zone, excluding only the most northern regions.

If you look after tritons, they can stretch out in captivity to three decades! The interest of aquarists in newts is due to the fact that all of their immediate relatives are strictly protected by environmental legislation, and therefore their content in captivity is not welcome, while the newts themselves can be found in the home ponds of many animal lovers. Ordinary newt - the animal is quite large.

Its length in some cases can reach one and a half dozen centimeters. The coloring of these amphibians during ordinary times can not boast anything: a back of a dark sandy, greenish color, and the abdomen is dirty-green or slightly whitish. But in the mating season, these modest people do not know! Males and females acquire a bright and rich coloration, and the crested newts grow a magnificent comb, which makes them look like fairy-tale dragons.

Even more unusual is the needley newt, which got its name for the tubercles on the sides of the body, which hide the tips of the ribs. If such a newt is taken carelessly in hand, it is quite possible to get from it "for memory" unpleasant scratches. The dark green, carved with small specks of his body is very beautiful, and even grown up specimens can up to a length of 30 cm!

It is very interesting to observe the behavior of newts! They slowly and carefully move around the aquarium, often freezing, clinging firmly to the leaves of plants. Often you can see how they hang for a long time near the surface of the water. In general, a newt - an animal rather unpretentious. Optimal for them is a temperature within 21 degrees Celsius, but they can withstand a fairly wide temperature range from 17 to 25 degrees. In no case should you heat the water in the aquarium with newts, since the slightest overheating for them is fatal!
