Thuya Brabant: description and care

Tui the western "Brabant" is a beautiful plant that will decorate the garden or lawn near the house. The tree will look good on the terrace or near the front door. The plant has been known since ancient times and is a native of East Asia and North America.

The name of the plant in translation means "evergreen tree". And indeed, the whole year round pleases with its crown, which reaches 4 meters in diameter. The plant is famous for its unpretentiousness, perfectly tolerates the urban environment and can normally develop directly along the roadside.

When acquiring seedlings, attention should be paid only to acclimatized trees. It is best to buy seedlings that grow in containers. You should not buy a tree with an open rhizome, even if the plant was dug out by the buyer.

Thuya "Brabant" is resistant to frost due to the green dense wall, which is formed after performing a two-pruned pruning. The plant has light green shoots with yellowish tips.

The difference between "Brabant" and others is its faster growth. For a year the tree grows to half a meter. The needles of the plant have a greenish tinge. Adult tree reaches a height of three meters. Thuya "Brabant" perfectly develops in the shade, but for its good growth requires constant moistening. The seedlings of the plant are sufficiently hardy and are not afraid of winter cold, but in the first years after planting it is better to cover them.

Depending on the purpose of cultivation, the distance between plantings should be at least one meter. When creating an alley between rows, you need to leave 7 meters, and between the seedlings - about 4 m. When landing, you should dig a hole 70-80 cm, depending on the width of the root system.

Tui "Brabant", whose care is unpretentious, grows practically on any soil, but the area of planting should be protected from strong wind.

After planting the tree, it should be watered at least once a week for several months. In this case, one plant is recommended to give 10 liters of liquid. Since this tuya prefers moist soil, in the dry period it is necessary to water more often (2 times a week), without forgetting to spray the needles.

To protect plants from diseases and pests, special treatments, such as fungicides and insecticides, should also be performed.

Since the Thuya "Brabant" has superficial roots, inadmissible deep loosening. It is recommended to mulch with peat or chips.

Reproduction of needles is carried out by seeds or cuttings. In the latter case, the percentage of rooting is quite high.

Thuya "brabant" normally tolerates a haircut, although it is not necessary to do this, since the plant already has a beautiful cylindrical shape. However, when it is necessary to create certain compositions, pruning is usually performed at the end of autumn, when the tree is at rest.

In addition to the described species, Tui Korean, folded (giant), Sichuan and Japanese (stand) are quite widespread in gardening.
