Three-level oceanarium in St. Petersburg

In April 2006, a three-level aquarium was opened in St. Petersburg. This unique building is one of the largest in the country, and its area is about 5000 sq.m.

Presented in the aquarium exhibits delight their diversity: in the cozy glass houses of this marine world, five thousand fish have found their shelter. The total number of fish, which includes the oceanarium in St. Petersburg, is 120 species. Of these, twenty species are represented only by sharks alone. In the future on the territory of the oceanarium of St. Petersburg it is planned to open the first penguinarium in Russia. This will provide a unique opportunity to observe the penguins, who will be brought here from various territorial and climatic zones.

The Oceanarium in St. Petersburg can please its visitors with inhabitants of seven climatic zones - coral reefs, waters of the Amazon, water spaces of the Northwest of Russia, tidal zone, humid tropical jungle. This oceanarium contains 32 aquariums, the total capacity of which is 1000 tons of water. Small inhabitants of the seabed have small aquariums with a capacity of 300 liters, and large animals are located in spacious pools and aquariums. The largest of them - 750 thousand liters. Modern technologies accurately recreate the life of the seabed, and visitors can fully immerse themselves in the interesting world of marine life.

However, the main attraction, which includes the aquarium in St. Petersburg - is a 35-meter water transparent tunnel containing a moving path, on which you feel yourself a part of the ocean world, you become not only an observer, but you also participate in an underwater life. In addition, shark performances are held annually in the city of St. Petersburg. The oceanarium here refutes the view that sharks are primitive creatures of a lower level. Every day, with a sinking heart, visitors can watch how the trainers dexterously manage these dangerous predators, which are sometimes called killing machines.

The aquarium in St. Petersburg has a classroom, which is well equipped with all the necessary equipment to study the inhabitants of the marine underwater world, their lives and behavior. As is known, in captivity sharks do not reproduce. Therefore, the staff of the oceanarium solved this problem with the help of shark eggs brought from Indonesia, which are placed in a special incubator, where later small sharks appear.

Maintenance of the aquarium is not an easy task. Visitors do not even represent the amount of work that stands in such institutions for sufficient simplicity outside. Dozens of professional biologists observe the condition of pets, they daily check the water for quality, monitor the food, the level of oxygen in the aquariums. In different pools and aquariums, water differs in composition and undergoes various filtration and treatment. Water parameters vary in temperature, stiffness, density, oxygen content, concentration of chemical elements. The oceanarium is considered an integral part of the entertainment complex "Neptune".
