Thermostat for radiator. Installation of thermostats for radiators

The thermostat for a radiator is a device that regulates the temperature and creates an optimal microclimate in the room. Often in winter you can see an open wide open window or balcony door. This phenomenon is a simple explanation. Residents of apartments are not able to regulate the heat transfer of heaters independently, therefore they are forced to start cold air from the street. In order not to worry about daily airing in order to maintain the optimal temperature balance, thermostats for heating devices have been created.

Manual regulator

The principle of operation of this device is based on manual regulation of the temperature regime. To do this, it is necessary to manually turn the flywheel of the valve, thereby actuating the valve stem. Worth this device is relatively inexpensive, but some of its drawbacks in choosing a temperature regulator make you think. Due to frequent scrolling, the protective cap very often breaks.

Automatic thermostat

A thermostatic tap on a radiator of this type is installed to automatically adjust the required temperature. It can record a small temperature change of several degrees. The principle of operation of this device is based on its expansion and narrowing.

If the temperature in the heater is lower than the permissible value, the thermostat on the heating radiator is retracted, thereby allowing a larger volume of coolant to be supplied, and when the device is raised, the unit protrudes and the amount of liquid passed is reduced.

Disadvantages of mechanical controllers

Naturally, it is possible to regulate the temperature of the radiators by means of a mechanical thermostat, which is a classical shut-off valve. However, this is not only unnecessary costs, risk of zvozvushivaniya and overlapping of the entire riser, but also a high probability of regular breakage of locking devices that are unable to withstand frequent closing and opening.

In addition, with the help of an ordinary crane, it is absolutely impossible to perform precise control over the temperature to which the heater heats up, and with it the air in the room.

Advantages of temperature controllers

Installation of temperature controllers on radiators of heating will allow to get rid easily of all the above inconveniences and without any special efforts to create a comfortable microclimate in your apartment or house, and in each room - according to your program.

A mechanical or electronic thermostat is indispensable for heating appliances in the kitchen, in rooms with window openings facing the sunny side, as when setting up a heating system in these rooms it is necessary to take into account temperature fluctuations both during the day (additional sun heating) and at night. Very sensitive to such changes is the installed electric thermostat on the radiator, which is a direct way to save energy resources and, accordingly, financial resources.

Single-pipe heating system

One-pipe heating system means a series connection of heating devices, and switching off even one of them leads to a disruption of the coolant circulation.

For this reason, during the replacement of old batteries with modern appliances, as well as in new buildings where the radiators can be disconnected by means of ball valves, a bypass is installed in front of the valve, which connects the supply and return pipes of the coolant. Thus, when the radiator is turned off, the circulation will not be disturbed, and your neighbors will not stay with the cold heaters.

Naturally, for such a heating system, a thermostat is required for the radiator with little hydraulic resistance. If a regulating armature with a small internal diameter (high resistance) is placed on the supply line, a large volume of the coolant will pass through the bypass, and the radiators will remain cold at the same time.

Two-pipe system

In two-pipe heating systems, the radiators are connected in parallel, and the disconnection of one device will in no way affect the operation as a whole. In this case, the bypass is not used, therefore, for effective temperature control, a different type of thermostat with higher hydraulic resistance should be used.

Mounting recommendations

Thermostat for heating radiator - installation instructions:

  1. The distance from the thermoregulator to the floor construction is at least 800 mm.
  2. The device must be protected from direct sunlight.
  3. The electronic thermostat is extremely undesirable to be located in the zone of ascending air currents from radiators.
  4. The remote sensor must be rigidly fixed with brackets on the wall.
  5. Heat flows in the room should have free access to the regulator, in other words, you can not cover it with furniture, screen, curtains, etc.

Installation of temperature controllers

After being dismantled with the installation site, you should consider how the installation of thermostats on radiators of heating should take place.

  1. This device must be installed taking into account the direction of flow of the liquid. On each thermoregulator it is possible to find the arrow, its direction must coincide with the flow direction of the coolant. Accordingly, it must be mounted only in this position.
  2. Another important point is the position of the thermal head. It should be mounted parallel to the floor in a horizontal position. If, however, the thermal head is mounted in a vertical position, like a conventional valve or a faucet with a flywheel pointed upwards, a warm airflow from the valve body and from the return line will prevent the unit from accurately reacting to temperature changes in the ambient air.

Also it is worth paying attention to the fact that the thermostat for the cast-iron radiator is not worth using because of inefficiency. The fact is that the work of heating devices from cast iron is inertial, after blocking the flow of water they continue to radiate heat for a long time.

Customize

The thermostat must be calibrated only after the installation and filling of the heating system have been completed. It is important that the radiators are evenly warmed up. After that you can proceed with the adjustment of the thermostat. It is necessary to follow the operating instructions clearly and choose the temperature mode for the radiator that is required for a particular room.

How to adjust the thermostat on a radiator:

  1. First of all, it is necessary to minimize heat loss, for this, all windows and doors are closed.
  2. The head of the regulator rotates to the left as far as the stop, thus opening the valve completely.
  3. Under the influence of the incoming hot coolant the radiator starts to heat up. As soon as the temperature is 5-6 ° C higher, the thermal head rotates to the right as far as the stop, the valve closes.
  4. Gradually the air will begin to cool down. Then the head turns smoothly to the left.
  5. As soon as the sharp heating begins to be felt and the noise of water is heard in the heating device, it is necessary to lower the thermal head. Remember the resulting value on a graduated scale located on the body. At this point, the thermostat setting can be considered complete.
