The Warcraft universe, the chronology of books: "The Birth of the Horde", "The Last Guard", "Streams of Darkness"

In the 1990s, the American company Blizzard created a series of computer strategies for Warcraft. The plot of the game line was built around the fictional fantasy world of Azeroth, in which the struggle between people and orcs unfolded. Gradually the fictional universe expanded and acquired new details. The success of computer games led to the appearance of the official book series.

"Revenge of the Orcs"

The novels dedicated to the World of Warcraft, there is no one author. These books wrote a variety of recognized fantasy feathers: Christy Golden, Jeff Grubb, Aaron Rosenberg, etc. The order of publishing works did not always correspond to the chronological order of events within the universe itself.

The very first in 2001, the sale appeared book "Revenge of the orcs", written by science fiction writer Richard Knaak. The plot of the novel tells of the Horde. So Blizzard called the union of orcs, who decided to conquer Azeroth with the help of red dragons.

"Lord of the Clans" and "Rise of the Horde"

Readers with warmth met the first novel about the Warcraft universe. The chronology of books has since been consistently replenished with new publications. The second official piece was "The Lord of the Clans", written by Christy Golden in the same year 2001. In this book for the first time meets the name of the leader of the orcs Thrall.

"Lord of the Clans" was to be the basis for a new game Blizzard. Developing the concept of release, the company's developers decided to abandon the previous venture. The plot of Thrall, however, was not consigned to oblivion. He was included in the following Warcraft III strategy. So literary and computer aspects of the universe of Blizzard began to complement each other.

"Lord of the clans" was for Golden only a breakdown. The writer continued her collaboration with Blizzard and in 2006 finished the book "The Birth of the Horde" (in another translation "The Horde's Ascent"). It describes the history of the war of the orcs with another fictional race - draenei, during which the draenei suffered a crushing defeat. Golden described in detail one of the most interesting plot lines in the entire franchise - the relationship between the demons of the Burning Legion and the Horde.

"The Last Guard"

Orcs - only one of the fractions of the world of Warcraft. The chronology of books based on the Blizzard universe consists of works dedicated to people. Their alliance with dwarves and gnomes is simply called the Alliance. The struggle of this faction with the Horde is a key story line connecting all games and books about the World of Warcraft.

The Alliance is described in detail in the novels "Blood and Honor" by Chris Metzen and "The Last Watchman" by Jeff Grubb. Both books were written and published in 2001. What did Jeff Grubb say about his work? "The Last Guard" is a story about the Medivh. This powerful magician of the human race opened a portal to another world, from where he called the orcs to Azeroth. The invasion led to the beginning of the war between the Alliance and the Horde.

"Streams of Darkness" and "Beyond the Dark Portal"

Direct plot plot of the "Last Guard" is the novel "Streams of Darkness". Also there is the same name game Warcraft. The chronology of books in this case is the tracing of the events of the computer strategy of the 1990s. For the first time, the Alliance managed to repel the invasion of the Horde. Now, Azeroth began to threaten the descendants of those enslaved by demons, orcs.

The next book - "On the Other Side of the Dark Portal" - tells about the campaign of people in the world of Draenor - the historic homeland of the orcs. This time the Horde is led by the marginal shaman Ner'zhul, who practices necromancy and black magic. "On the other side of the Dark Portal" written all the same Aaron Rosenberg. "Streams of Darkness" show the orcs from their bad side, the second book reveals the secret of their tragic fate, which led the proud people to serve the calculating demons of the Burning Legion.

"Rise of the Lich King" and "War of the Ancients"

The most successful game Blizzard in the fantasy strategy line was Warcraft III, released in 2002. A few years after the release of personal computers on the bookshelves appeared novelizations of his plot. The novel "The Rise of the Lich King" tells about the fate of Artes - the prince of the human kingdom. Mad demons, he turned into an evil necromancer, and then led the undead army of the Burning Legion, with which he became a threat to the whole world.

The remnants of the Alliance, Horde Thrall and night elves united against Artes. This war is devoted to the plot of the third strategy of Warcraft. The chronology of the books is a detailed and fascinating retelling of those events. Elven prehistory of Azeroth (night elves - the most ancient people of this world) appears before the reader in the trilogy "War of the Ancients". It consists of the novels The Source of Eternity, The Demon Soul and The Split. Although the "War of the Ancients" was not published first, it is this series, from a chronological point of view, is the starting point of events created by Blizzard's fantasy universe.

Subsequent novels

Alliance Alliance, Horde and night elves managed to defeat the Burning Legion. Orcs moved to the western mainland of Kalimdor. A new world order has come, when the Horde and the Alliance began to remain in a state of fragile truce. On the new events in Azeroth, fans of the fantasy universe could learn, on the one hand, with the help of the role-playing multiplayer game World of Warcraft, and on the other hand, with the help of all the same literary works of literature.

For example, abandoned the status of the leader and became a shaman, Thrall appears in the book "Twilight Aspects." In this novel, a brave and wise experience, the orc will face Chromagus, the ancient dragon who attempted the peaceful life of Azeroth. The magician Jaina, who turned out to be the leader of the Alliance during the war against the Burning Legion, also did not long enjoy the world. Constant border conflicts with the Horde put people on the brink of a new war. The book "Tides of War" tells of Jaina's attempt to maintain a fragile, but much needed alliance with the orcs.

The subsequent novels of the Warcraft series focus the reader's attention on other peoples of Azeroth. For example, the novel "Wolf's Heart" tells of a race of worgen who have much in common with werewolves. Another book, The Shadows of the Horde, dwells on the tale history of Vol'jin, a skilful hunter and head of a small tribe. In this novel also appears the lost continent of Pandaria. Finally, the book "Split: Prelude" weaves all the previous story lines into a new ball. This time, Azeroth is faced with a terrible natural phenomenon, completely changed the map of the fantasy world.
