The Voroshilovskaya Battery Museum

To protect the naval bases of Russia in the southern part of the Russian Island, near the Novik Bay was built Voroshilovskaya battery, named after the People's Commissar of Defense.

How it all began

The decision to build it was made in May 1931. But only in 1932 the technical assignment was approved. It was decided to build a two-tower battery No. 981. Until 1933 rock, concrete, and also underground works were conducted. In February 1934, the first tower was completed, in April - the second one. In November 1934 the Voroshilov battery was ready for training firing. Its commander was appointed NV Arsenyev.

Features of the structure

For that time the speed of construction was unprecedented. In addition, the Voroshilov battery, built in two years, is a unique structure. It has a convenient location and interior layout. The Voroshilov battery is not visible from the sea. Therefore, in the event of an enemy attack, he would have to act blindly.

But inside the battery itself is not a good overview. "How, then, should you defend yourself?" You ask. In fact, everything is very simple and at the same time cunningly invented. Fire guidance occurs from command posts, which are in points with an excellent overview. The first - on Mount Vyatlyn (height 107 m) in 1575 m from the tower. The second - on the mountain The main height is 279 meters. From these posts to the battery was stretched the cable, through which messages were transmitted.

Internal organization

What is the Voroshilov battery? This underground structure is 15 meters deep. Imagine a five-story house that is underground. Above it towers only two towers, the thickness of the coating is 2.8 m. Under the ground they are kept by giant columns around which mechanisms and rooms are located. The thickness of the side and rear walls is 1.5 m, the front wall is 4 m.

The facility is able to protect even from air raids. It is also not afraid of chemical and bacteriological attacks.

It is not surprising that it has survived to this day, and the museum "Voroshilovskaya battery" was founded there. Artillery installations are located in each tower. They are not simple, but taken from the battleship Mikhail Frunze. The shells were raised in the towers by means of special mechanisms.

What else is there?

The structure has three floors. On the first there are residential and service rooms. The second floor served as a repository of charges, the total number of which reached 1200. On the third floor, shells were stored, intended directly for use in combat operations. There they could be about 600 pieces.

To raise the shells of the towers were equipped with a lifting device - a hoist. To the guns they were fed along a monorail attached to the ceiling. Between the two towers was dug underground passage at a depth of 20 meters. You could also go through a special passage from the third floor.

The lower part of the tower could rotate to facilitate the delivery of shells. This action took place with the help of electric motors. Electricity was connected from the island's power system.

There were people serving the tower, and clean water, because under the battery was an artesian well. The towers could also be rotated by hand in case of malfunctions with electricity, although the battery had its own diesel unit.

The number of personnel was 399 people. To serve one tower, it took 75 people.

If you are in Vladivostok, be sure to ask how to get to the Voroshilov battery. This unique building deserves our attention.

Battle power

This machine gave such volleys that during the exercises with an explosive wave glass was knocked out in the windows of the houses of nearby villages. Therefore, the residents strengthened them with the help of mattresses.

But nevertheless, the accuracy with which shots could be fired is striking. In 1992, GE Shabot hit a small goal - a barrel with a diameter of about 2 meters from a distance of about 10 kilometers. This was the last shot. In 1998 a museum was founded here. Many are interested in whether the Voroshilov battery (Vladivostok) is available for visiting. The museum operates from Wednesday to Sunday, from 9.00 to 17.00. Monday and Tuesday are days off.

out of work

The Voroshilov battery had the original purpose of protecting our lands from the Japanese attack. But it was already reinsurance. After all, the banks near Vladivostok had a complex terrain. In addition, the city was under heavy artillery defense. Thus, the landing of the landing force or the approach of the ships to the shores was impossible.

Attempts by the Japanese to cut off the Primorye from the entire USSR failed. They took them twice: in 1938 and 1939. Japan and the USSR concluded a treaty of neutrality, which had already acted towards the beginning of the Second World War. Therefore, the Voroshilov battery never had to take part in any military action.

Why was it needed? And then, to show all ill-wishers that we have something to respond to the illegal intrusion into the territory. Then the second question arises: "Why the battery was disbanded?" The answer is very simple: it has become an obsolete type of weaponry. With the outbreak of hostilities, the enemy will simply destroy it. Indeed, in our time, targets can be hit at a distance of several hundred kilometers. In addition, its coordinates are known.

If you want to find out where the Voroshilov battery is located, how to get to it, come to Russky Island, and there you will be indicated the direction.

It is a pity that such grandiose buildings become a relic of the past. But they were once symbols of their time. But it does not stand still, and our new homeland is protected by new modern tools, which will also become part of the history of Russia. Visit the museum "Voroshilovskaya battery", while it is still open for visitors.
