The Trans-Siberian Railway ... Probably, you rarely see a man who has never heard this name in his life ... It has met and continues to meet in books, in songs and in many contemporary films about Russia. So what kind of place is this? And why does it attract so much attention?

This railroad has several names. Some of them, for example the Great Siberian Way, have even become obsolete and go down in history.

To date, this largest railway, following through all of Eurasia, bears the sonorous name of Transsib, and it is entrusted with the role of connecting Moscow and St. Petersburg with the large industrial cities of Eastern Siberia and the Far East.

The total length of the highway is a huge figure of 9298.2 km. This makes the Transsib the longest railway of the planet.

Currently, it connects Russian centers between Europe and the Pacific. The Trans-Siberian Railway is a direction which, according to its technical capabilities, allows it to transport about 100 million tons of cargo per year. But this, according to experts, its bandwidth is completely exhausted.

The Trans-Siberian Railway. History of construction

At the official level, the construction of the railway began at the very end of May 1891 from Vladivostok. The event was so significant that the future Emperor Nicholas II himself was the one to pledge.

The leading engineer of the time N.S. Svityagin. It was in honor of him that the station of the same name was subsequently named. Cargoes were delivered mainly along the Northern Sea Route: from Murmansk to the mouth of the Yenisei River.

It takes 10 years, and on the world famous railroad the first passengers appear. At first, the Trans-Siberian Railway was a journey purely for workers.

The regular St. Petersburg-Vladivostok message began in 1903, when the road was put into so-called permanent operation. However, the track was not continuous, at first the Baikal had to transport the trains on a ferry specially built for this purpose.

Passenger traffic originates from the appearance of the circumferential road. In 1905, the opportunity was opened for movement exclusively along rails. The situation was somewhat complicated by the fact that the route passed through Manchuria, and after the Russo-Japanese War, a need arose to build a road that passed exclusively through the territory of the Russian Empire. • 207 km of the road is laid along the shores of the majestic Lake Baikal.
