The theater of drama (Samara): history, repertoire, troupe

The Academic Drama Theater (Samara) appeared in the nineteenth century. Today, his repertoire includes performances of famous classical works and new plays by contemporary authors.

History

The theater of drama (Samara), photo of the building of which is presented in this article, exists since 1851. It was then that a permanent professional troupe appeared in the city. In 1888, for her was built a new stone building. In it the theater is located and still. This is a beautiful building in the Russian style, reminiscent of a tower or even a palace. It was built by the architect M. Chichagov.

The drama theater (Samara) was the first in the country to stage performances on Maxim Gorky's works on his stage. Completely state and stationary, it was named in 1926. During the Second World War, the repertoire consisted mainly of military productions. The troupe went with concerts in support of the defenders of the Motherland and the workers of the home front. In the 50s, the drama theater (Samara) went on tour to Moscow, where his performances were very successful. In 1977 he received the academic title. In the 90s, such famous directors as D. Kaplen and Dmitri Astrakhan collaborated with the troupe. Today, the Samara drama takes an active part in festivals and competitions, as well as actors go on tours around Russia and abroad. On the basis of the theater, a course of students was recruited to the St. Petersburg Academy of Theater Arts. In November 2011 the theater celebrated its 160th anniversary. In honor of this event, a jubilee evening was held under the name of "Rovesnik Guberniya".
