The screen version of the novel "Master and Margarita." The role of the Master

Bulgakov's famous novel filmmakers tried to film many times. But not all attempts were successful. Superstitious rumors shrouded the book "The Master and Margarita." The role of the Master in different times was performed in the cinema and on the stage by the outstanding actors. And according to some information, this literary image imposed an imprint on their lives. The same can be said about the artists who performed other roles. Films and performances based on the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov - the topic of the article.

Prehistory

In this article, consider four famous film-screen versions, created by the book "Master and Margarita." The role of the Master in the last film was played by Alexander Galibin. This is a picture of Vladimir Bortko, which, according to most reviews, is the best. But, perhaps, the fact is that the audience is little familiar with the work of other filmmakers?

Eldar Ryazanov dreamed of screening a book in his time. But for this it was necessary to obtain permission from party officials. The director did not succeed. Then the attempt was made by Elem Klimov. This time the Bulgakov plot could not be transferred to the screen due to lack of funding.

Prohibition of the widow of the prose writer

An interesting story happened to Vladimir Naumov. The director was already ready for the script, when he unexpectedly in a dream was the widow of the writer - Elena Bulgakova - and demanded to interrupt preparations for the shooting. These and other cases from the life of filmmakers, who took for Bulgakov's imperishable novel, and gave rise to a lot of rumors and speculation about the impossibility of creating the film "Master and Margarita". The role of the Master was considered dangerous. Actors who dared to play the main role of Bulgakov's work, or even worse - one of the participants of the devil's suite, awaited imminent fate. This was believed by most artists. And they, as you know, are superstitious people. Nevertheless, some directors managed to bring it to the end.

The 1972 film

In this picture, there are characters and events that are not in the book. Maskudov - this is the name of the main character of the movie "Master and Margarita." The role of the Master in this adaptation was played by the Italian actor Ugo Tonyatstsi. According to the plot of the film, created in 1972, the main character is a playwright. He writes a play, which causes a storm of indignation among critics. Meanwhile, Woland arrives in Moscow, punishing all who do not recognize the genius of the Master.

The screen version of Maciej Wojtysh

The film of the Polish director received positive reviews in the West. But a few Russian viewers liked this adaptation of the novel "Master and Margarita". Cast: Vladislav Kovalsky, Anna Dymna. These actors are little known in Russia. The plot in the 1989 film was maximally preserved. Nevertheless, the pictures of Russian directors, created years later, caused more positive responses in the writer's homeland.

The screen version of Yuri Kary

In 1994, the shooting of the next film on the book "Master and Margarita" was over. The main role in this film adaptation went to Viktor Rakov. Some critics believe that Yuri Kare was able to remarkably convey the mysterious and disturbing Bulgakov spirit. The game of Rakov was also noted. However, the trouble is that the film was released only seventeen years after its creation. The director for a long time could not find a common language with the producers. However, this situation served as another proof that with Bulgakov's book everything is not so simple.

Anastasia Vertinskaya played in the movie Kara the role of Margarita. In the novel "Master and Margarita" the central characters are Woland and the members of his retinue. The success of the picture depends on who fulfills these colorful and contradictory roles. The fair Satan in the screen version of Kara played Valentin Gaft. Korovieva - Filippenko. The role of Azazello was performed by Vladimir Steklov. And, finally, Behemoth - Victor Pavlov. The picture involved young actors, whose names are known to everyone today. For example, the poet, who is destined to learn about what schizophrenia is, played Sergei Garmash. Gell - maid Woland - Alexander Zakharov.

The film by Vladimir Bortko

The premiere of the television series was a real event. It took place in 2005. Both positive and angry reviews received the series. The role of Woland in "Master and Margarita" was performed by Oleg Basilashvili. Other characters played masters of Russian cinema: Alexander Filippenko, Cyril Lavrov, Alexander Abdulov, Vasily Livanov, Ivan Krasko.

The role of Margarita brilliantly, not exemplary to her predecessors, was performed by Anna Kovalchuk. The master, as already mentioned, is Galibin. However, it was voiced by the ubiquitous Sergei Bezrukov, who also embodied the image of Yeshua on the screen. Employees of the variety show, which in the final chapters of the novel preferred to sit in an armored iron cabinet, were perfectly played by such outstanding actors as Alexander Pankratov-Cherny, Ilya Oleinikov.

Bortko himself once had the best screen adaptation of Bulgakov's work (the story "The Dog's Heart"). Nevertheless, the film turned out, as one of the critics put it, empty, unsubstantiated.

After the release of the television series for Bulgakov's work in the press and the Network, articles began to appear on the stories of how the work was gloomy in the career and personal life of the actors: one was ill, the other was left without a role, the third divorced his wife. However, all this is speculation and fantasy of people, fascinated by Bulgakov's mysticism. And the troubles in the life of artists with the prose of the great writer are hardly connected.

Theater

The first to transfer the Bulgakov text to the stage was Yury Lyubimov. More than thirty years ago, the premiere of the play "The Master and Margarita" took place at the Taganka Theater. The role of the Master is played today by Dmitry Vysotsky.
