Goose is widely used both in large poultry farms and in household plots. Rapid weight gain is a quality that attracts increased attention to this bird. Although not only meat is valuable in it. With each individual, a diligent host can get excellent fat, a liver, a feather and a weightless fluff. Even a goose skin with the remains of a cannon can be made as a rabbit. Such material is perfectly suited for the production of winter clothes.

Knowing the most promising breeds of geese, you can get a good profit from their cultivation. Since this bird can feed on grass, a large consumption of mixed fodder is not required. This means that the investments will be minimal. It is enough to grow 5-7 geese from one goose to fully pay back its content and get about sixty pounds of delicious meat. Each individual for two months from a small chick will turn into a stout bird weighing four kilograms without much effort on the part of the owner.

In small subsidiary farms, the most promising geese breeds are grown. These include Gorky, Tuluz, Kaluga, Arzamaz, Tula, Kholmogory, large gray, Italian white, Kuban, Obroshin and Chinese. We will consider in more detail only two types.

Geese of the Kholmogory

This bird is familiar to every person from early childhood. She became the prototype of the character in the tale "Geese-swans". Kholmogory is a particularly valuable meat breed of geese. The bird has a beautiful color of snow-white, gray-piego or gray color. The distinctive characteristics inherent in this individual are:

  • A large head a little elongated and eyes with squint due to small superciliary folds;
  • Long beak with a pronounced bump and cone in the upper part, dark red or pinkish-yellow;
  • A large leather fold located under the beak;
  • "Swan" neck, reaching a length of up to 70 centimeters;
  • Wide and smooth back and chest, the presence of two fat folds under the belly;
  • Large paws of pink and yellow color.

Goose of the Kholmogory breed can bring 13-40 eggs a year, each weighing about 200 grams. These are very responsible mothers and beautiful hens. The weight of the young at the age of five months reaches 8-12 kilograms with special fattening.

Lindowski Geese

This breed is widely known as Gorky. It is obtained by crossing the Solnechnogorsk, Gorky and Chinese geese. Lindovsky geese belong to the heavy category of birds and are valued for good reproductive qualities and a large increase in meat. Their distinctive features are:

  • A large head with a cone-like growth in the forehead;
  • Plumage of pego, gray or white;
  • Strong and very curved beak, under which is a leathery fold;
  • Round, big eyes of bright blue color;
  • A massive, wide and long body with a skin fold on the abdomen.

Each goose can bring 30-45 eggs per year in weight up to 150 grams. The withdrawal of the chicks should be carried out in the incubator, since the female instinct is poorly developed in the incubation. At the age of six months geese reach a weight of about eight kilograms. Lindowski geese are not demanding for the presence of a pond and grow beautifully in enclosed pens without grazing on pastures.

Wishing to obtain a rapid increase in the weight of an individual of any breed, it is necessary to reduce the use of grass and increase the amount of grain feed. A good result is obtained with the use of specialized vitamin supplements, which contribute to full development and reduce the incidence.
