At one time it was the capital of Parthia, and in the Middle Ages Nisa became an important center of the Silk Road.

The invasion of the Mongols in 1220, as well as a number of other factors, led to the fact that the city began to lose its former positions. By the beginning of the XVIII century, he was almost completely emptied. Today from Nisa there were only picturesque ruins in the middle of the desert. All the remnants of the ancient Asian city are protected by UNESCO.
