Fountain at the Bolshoi Theater

This grandiose monument is known not only to Muscovites, all residents of the former Soviet Union, but also to many citizens of foreign countries. It is the visiting card of the capital.

It was built in 1835. The author of the project is I. Vitali - a well-known sculptor at the time. His creation was the first public fountain in Moscow, although such designs were known since the reign of Alexei Mikhailovich. This he arranged in Kolomna water fun using the "curiosities overseas".

In the Soviet era, planned to place a fountain in this place as early as the beginning of 1940. VI Dolganov worked on the creation of the project, but all plans of town planners were destroyed by the war. This issue was not returned until after the Great Victory. In 1987, the fountain and the square near the Bolshoi Theater were dismantled. The fountain was restored only ten years later. The opening was timed to coincide with the 850th anniversary of our capital. But it was another fountain, developed in the workshop of the company "Mosproject-2".

The fountain was placed on an improvised podium in the center of a round square. The composition consists of three bowls, in which there are two kinds of vases. Spectacular night illumination with multi-colored lanterns adds to the theatricality of this magnificent water structure.

Many fountains work in the capital today . Moscow is proud of these unique facilities, but to the design of the Bolshoi Theater the attitude has been and remains to this day special. Perhaps because this place was chosen for meetings by our dear veterans of the Great Patriotic War on the day of the Great Victory.

"Mermaid" on Myasnitskaya Street

Fountains of Moscow, photos of which you see in our article, are all very different. They were built at different times, designed by different architects, but they are all endlessly dear to the residents of the capital. As, for example, the fountain "Mermaid", located on Myasnitskaya street. It is located in a small but cozy little garden near the Stroganov Art College.

Today there is no reliable information about who is the author and performer of the water maiden. This concrete sculpture in the center of the bowl is the body of a beautiful girl. It is beautifully curved. Fish tail and maiden head are painted in pink, blue and brown.

"Abduction of Europe"

In the capital there are very unusual and original fountains. Moscow received a gift from the Belgian capital, the city of Brussels, a song called "Abduction of Europe". It was installed in 2002 near the Kiev railway station. Its author is the sculptor-avant-gardist Olivier Strehl.

At the heart of the composition of the fountain lies Greek mythology. In the interweaving of 18-meter tubes, a figure of a bull is seen. The figure of the stolen Europe among water jets is difficult to consider, although experts say that the image of the girl in the composition still exists. It is symbolized by artfully arched pipes that visualize charm and femininity.

The construction, made of stainless pipes, is located in the granite bowl of the light-dynamic fountain. Its diameter is 26 meters.

Singing fountains in Moscow

Probably, even native Muscovites did not see all the water facilities that are in their city. As we have already said, in the capital you can see a variety of fountains. Moscow takes care of old designs, many of which today are monuments of history.

Nevertheless, the greatest interest is caused by water constructions with special effects. Singing fountains in Moscow every evening not only collect tourists from all over the world, but also local residents. The largest such fountain is in the reserve "Tsaritsyno", where the Empress Catherine II loved to rest.

It was opened in 2007. The fountain is in a natural pond. Its diameter is 55 meters, depth - 1.5 meters. The design consists of 900 jets. The computer controls the direction of the flowing water, changing colors, music, according to a pre-designed program. Two works by PI Tchaikovsky ("March" and "Waltz of Flowers") and two melodies by Paul Mauriat are used here. This beautiful fountain works only in the spring-summer season. In the rest of the year it is closed with a protective tent.

A singing fountain is also in the Gorky Park. To see its color effects, you must come to the park at 22.30. The presentation lasts 30 minutes.

In 2005, the fountain "Music of Glory" was installed at the Glory Square near the "Kuzminki" metro station on the 60th anniversary of the victory in the Second World War. This structure was created not for entertainment, but as a monument.
