Studies show: a beautiful garden can save your life

If you have a beautiful garden, your life is getting better! This conclusion was reached by scientists who recently conducted studies demonstrating the connection between life in the natural environment and human health.

Study details

The researchers found that women who lived in areas with a large amount of greenery had a 34% lower risk of dying from respiratory diseases and a 13% lower risk of dying from cancer when compared to the results of people whose homes have virtually no vegetation. In general, people from more green areas have a mortality rate of 12% lower. In addition, it is believed that green has a beneficial effect on psychological health. Scientists from Harvard University found that for a high standard of living in the city must necessarily be created numerous sites with growing trees. Greens should be taken into account when planning new areas. To their conclusions, the researchers came from experience, which involved more than one hundred thousand women.

A surprising result

The mortality rate in relation to the amount of greenery near the house (the volume was determined using satellite imagery) was studied in a complex way, that is, other factors were taken into account: socioeconomic status, age, bad habits, nationality. Scientists were surprised when they found the strongest connection with the level of gardening. They were even more impressed by the fact that the main advantage of a large quantity of greenery is that it improves a person's mental state!

conclusions

It turns out that the green not only protects the environment, reducing the level of carbon dioxide and reducing the effects of global warming, but also improves people's health. In the future, landscape planning will be carried out exclusively with this in mind to create the most healthy environment. If a person lives in an area where there is a lot of greenery, the risk of depression decreases, the level of air pollution is not so harmful, the noise level decreases, the number of opportunities for social connections and physical activity increases. Scientists came to the conclusion that there is a so-called "urban stress". The area of the brain that creates a calm, meditative mood, is activated when people look at pictures of landscapes. Images of urban development slow down the reaction. It can be concluded that people living in the city suffer the same way as animals living in cages.
