The main environmental problems in Africa

Ecological problems of Africa are of great importance for the whole world, because it is the second largest continent and its population exceeds 1 billion inhabitants. The average population density is 31 people per square kilometer.

Scale

African environmental problems affect 55 countries, which have 37 cities with a population of more than one million. This is the hottest continent on the planet, because it is located in the tropics. However, due to the size of the territory, it is possible to distinguish zones with different climate regimes.

The territories of Africa, which need to address environmental problems, are deserts, tropical forests and much more. Basically here the plains predominate, and occasionally the uplands and mountains. The highest point is Kilimanjaro, a volcano towering 5895 meters above sea level.

Negligence

The governments of the countries of the continent do not pay too much attention to the ecological problems of Africa and the ways of their solution. Few people care about reducing harmful effects on nature. Modern technologies for environmental protection are not being implemented. Africa's environmental problems are not being addressed to reduce or eliminate waste.

Considerable attention should be given to such sectors as heavy and light industry, metal processing, animal breeding, and the agricultural sector as well as machine building.

The environmental problems of African countries are due to the fact that in the manufacture of certain benefits neglected safety technology, harmful emissions are not cleaned and enter the atmosphere in an unprocessed form, a large amount of sewage goes into water.

The main negative factors

Chemical wastes enter the natural environment, polluting and spoiling it. Ecological problems of Africa arise, because resources are spent chaotically, and not rationally and thoughtfully.

The earth is exploited, cities are too inundated with people who live in poverty. Unemployment in settlements sometimes reaches 75%, which is a critical level. Experts cook badly. So the environment degrades, like man - an integral part of it.

In fact, this continent has a unique animal world and vegetation. In the local savanna you can find beautiful bushes, small trees such as terminas and bush, and many other beautiful species. The same can be said about the beasts. However, lions, cheetahs, chic leopards and other inhabitants of local territories suffer very much from poachers whose criminal activities are not suppressed by the state at the proper level.

Disappearance is already threatened by very many representatives of wildlife, and someone even completely disappeared from the face of the earth. For example, here before it was possible to meet a quagga, which is a close relative of a zebra, also a non-monkey creature. Now it is completely exterminated. At first people tamed this animal, but then so abused its confidence that they brought it to extinction. In the wild, the last such individual was killed in 1878. They tried to save them in the zoo, but there their family was interrupted in 1883.

The destructive nature

The environmental problems of North Africa are mainly desertification, which is due to uncontrolled deforestation of forests, which spread to all new territories, devastating them. Thus, land resources are degraded, soils are prone to erosion.

Hence, deserts appear, which are enough on the continent. There are fewer forests that are the creators of oxygen.

The environmental problems of South Africa and the center lie in the destruction of the tropical sector. Also a dangerous and harmful nature place is formed on the continent of a peculiar city, performing the functions of a dump, called Agbogbloshi.

It was established in the northwestern part of the continent near the capital of Ghana, Accra. This place is the "rest" of electronics waste collected around the globe. Here you can see old TVs and parts of computers, telephones, scanners and other similar devices.

From such debris, mercury, harmful hydrochloric acid, poisonous arsenic, various metals, lead dust and other types of chemical compounds in horrible amounts exceeding any burrows and doses of concentration several hundred times fall into the ground.

In the local water all the fish have died for a long time, birds do not dare to fly in the air here, there is no grass on the ground. People living nearby die very early.

Betrayal from within

Another negative factor is the fact that the heads of local countries signed treaties, according to which the wastes of the chemical industry are imported and buried in this land.

This is either an unwillingness to understand the dangers of the consequences, or a simple greedy impulse to cash in on the destruction caused to the nature of its own land. In any case, all this has a monstrous effect on the environment and people's lives.

From developed industrial countries, toxic substances and radioactive compounds formed in the process of production are brought here, since processing them will be much more expensive. Thus, for mercenary purposes, the nature of Africa is destroyed not only by representatives of other countries, but also by those who must patronize and care for this territory.

Depletion of fauna

During the 18th century, the number of otters decreased, because their fur was very popular. For the sake of "soft gold" people went to this crime before nature. In 1984, the locks of the dam were opened, which killed 10,000 caribou who migrated. Tigers, wolves and so many other animals also suffered.

In the west of the continent, rhinoceroses of black color are rapidly dying out. Specialists in environmental protection believe that the uncontrolled effect of poachers, which are very attracted by the horns of these animals, are sold at a high price on the black market.

Also suffer are white representatives of the species, which you can meet in the north. About a quarter of the mammal species inhabiting the continent are close to total extinction. Amphibians disappear even more rapidly. Statistics are constantly updated, but brings not good news.

If governments do not seriously think about protecting the environment, the list of problems can only increase, so that at the moment it is very important to implement positive changes.
