The jump in temperature in 2016 shocked even scientists

Despite the fact that only half of 2016 has passed, our planet is already on the way to calling it the hottest in the history of observations. Even if such a scenario was predicted by many climate researchers, the events that unfold with each new month have become a complete surprise for scientists, the director of the World Climate Research Program said.

Unexpected temperature change

At the end of last month, NASA and the American National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration confirmed: June 2016 was recognized as the warmest first summer month since 1880. July has already become the 14th month of record temperatures, which in itself is a fairly long time. However, it is not only the fact that so many consecutive months have been record warm, but also that the 2016 became the year of record temperatures, worries not only. It is these strange temperature jumps that cause the greatest fear.

The researchers admit that they did not expect such temperature changes. This was stated by David Carlson - director of the climate research program of the World Meteorological Organization. He admits that moderate heat was predicted for 2016, but climatologists did not expect such sudden temperature rises. Scale temperature jumps are an extreme phenomenon, but they have already become a new norm.

Receptive horse racing

Now scientists are starting an investigation to study the debilitating temperature of +54 degrees, which was registered in Kuwait. This figure broke the record for the highest temperature ever recorded in the eastern hemisphere. Also, this temperature is the second largest recorded on Earth. And given that the 1913 data recorded in the Death Valley, California, USA, are controversial, it means that 2016 can set a record for the highest temperature ever recorded on Earth.

Projections for the future

Given this, it can be concluded that the indicators of the thermometer in the Northern Hemisphere will steadily rise, twice as fast as in the Southern hemisphere. This will also contribute to Arctic warming. Data on the melting of ice recorded in the first half of 2016 are equal to those that can usually be seen only at the end of the year. This, combined with a new maximum of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (a gas that primarily absorbs heat) does not help the world to cool down in the near future. This means that the question of whether the climate has changed is no longer relevant. Now we need to ask what these changes are.
