In the minds of almost any person, the word "horizon" is tightly connected with the school. Why is that? It is not difficult to guess: the horizon is the favorite word of teachers. Why is it better to replace the word "horizon", and how?

We do not know how to readers, but it seems to us that the word outlook is a word that has become obsolete with an obvious Soviet taste. And, by the way, do not think that all Soviet must be forgotten on this basis, not at all. If we talk, for example, about some films or books, then they are beautiful. At least, much better than modern, but here the language of the Soviet era, including the everyday, was not the best.

On the one hand, we can say that the "horizon" is metaphorical. How to replace the "horizon" painlessly? It's very simple: about a person you can say that he is educated. It is not necessary to say that someone has a "wide horizon", this is superfluous.

The question arises, but is there an expanded horizon? Perhaps we are slightly behind the language practice, but it seems that the concept of an expanded horizon is the result of the computer age. Because now in the fashion extended versions of movies, games, and therefore to the adjective "broad" for some reason, the prefix "races" is added, although this is redundant.

The horizon can be narrow and wide. If the first - a person is little or not educated at all, then the second - the person is educated. But in this case, not everything is so unambiguous, because one can have a wide range of interests, but be uneducated, because the quality of knowledge is determined not so much by coverage as by depth.

Relatively speaking, any scientist, one way or another, in the course of his professional development is as narrow as possible, especially now, when any field of knowledge is overgrown with many details and particulars. Therefore, the time of the encyclopaedists passed, and the amateur, on the other hand, has expanse: he does not have to choose where to specialize. It follows that a broad outlook is not always good, because the depth of knowledge is also important.

It is important to remember that if there is an opportunity, it is better to express it more concretely, because it will become clearer what the person is talking about. In other words, if someone wants to say that his brother, a matchmaker, a friend reads a lot of books, understands Renaissance paintings or knows Hegel's works by heart, then let him say so. Do not obscure the essence of the case with clerical phrases, the feature of which, as you know, is fantastic abstractness and the same emptiness.
