"The Heart of a Dog": an analysis of the story of Mikhail Bulgakov

The work of Mikhail Afanasyevich Bulgakov is an incredible phenomenon in the artistic culture of the 20th century. The tragic fate of the master, who did not have the opportunity to be printed and appreciated, is known to many. For thirteen years, Bulgakov could not get through to the publishers and see at least one of his works in the press.

The ideological basis of the story

The name of this widely known author today appeared in the literature for the first time during the times of the Soviet power. He had to feel all the complexities and peculiarities of the Soviet reality of the thirties. Earlier, the writer's childhood and youth were held in Kiev, and more mature years - in Moscow. It was during his stay in Moscow that the story "The Heart of a Dog" was written. In it, with delicate skill and talent, the theme of absurd disharmony that was solely due to human interference in the eternal laws of nature was revealed.

"Dog Heart" is a filigree specimen of satirical fiction. If satirical works simply state the facts, then the goal of satirical fiction is a warning about the potential consequences of human activity. About this and says in his novel, Mikhail Bulgakov. "Dog Heart" is a work in which the eminent master displayed his ideas concerning the need for non-interference in the normal course of evolution. He believes that there can not be violent, aggressive innovations, that everything should go His own turn. This topic was and remains eternal both in the times of Bulgakov and in the 21st century.

Analysis of the story "The Heart of a Dog" by Bulgakov only helps to understand that the revolution that took place in Russia was not the result of a rational and gradual spiritual development of the whole society and each individual, but only a meaningless premature experiment. But, in the author's opinion, in order to avoid all the terrible consequences that await society, it is enough to create in the country the position that existed before the revolution.

Professor Preobrazhensky

The heroes of Bulgakov's "Dog Heart" are the most typical Moscow inhabitants of the thirties of the last century. One of the main characters in action is Professor Preobrazhensky. He is a democratic man both in origin and in conviction. He is a great figure in science, and his desire is to help people without harming them. Being a well-known and educated representative of medicine, the processor Preobrazhensky deals with operations aimed at rejuvenating aging ladies. He decides on the operation, during which the dog will be transplanted part of the human brain. "Patient" of the professor was a common dog named Sharik.

Polygraph Polygraphovich Sharikov

The results of the experiment were amazing. A new man appeared - Sharikov, who, according to the writer's idea, is an image of a Soviet man. In the novel "The Heart of a Dog", the analysis of which is difficult enough for many reasons, Mikhail Bulgakov showed the average representative of Soviet times: an alcoholic with three convictions. It is from these people, according to the author, it is planned to build a new society.

"New Man" even needed a full name - Polygraph Polygraphovich Sharikov. Like any other philistine, he passionately wants to break out into people, but he does not understand at all how to achieve this. The character of the hero leaves much to be desired, he is aggressive and insolent, Professor Preobrazhensky constantly has conflicts with him.

Insolence, hypocrisy and deceit - that's what qualities a Soviet man wanted to expose Bulgakov. "Dog heart" (the analysis of the work confirms this) shows how unbearable and hopeless the state of society becomes. Sharikov does not aspire to learn anything, he remains ignorant slobbering. Professor Preobrazhensky is terribly displeased with his charges, to which he replies that at such a time everyone has his rights.

Shvonder

In his unwillingness to become a useful member of the society, Polygraph Polygraphovich is not alone, he finds his "like-minded" - Shvonder, who works as chairman of the house committee. Shvonder becomes the ideal mentor of Sharikov and begins to teach him about Soviet life. He provides the new-found "man" with literature for study, from which he makes only one conclusion - everything must be divided. At that moment Sharikov became a "real" person, he realized that the main aspirations of the powerful are robbery and theft. This author showed in his novel "The Heart of a Dog." Analysis of the behavior of the main characters proves that the main principle of social ideology, that is, the so-called equality, can lead only to negative consequences.

Work of Sharikov

Significant in understanding the images of the story is the work for which Polygraph Polygraphovich is arriving. He disappears for a while from the apartment of Professor Preobrazhensky, whom he already pretty tired, and then appears again, but very ill Smelling. Sharikov explains to his creator that he found a job and is now engaged in catching stray animals in the city.

This episode shows how close the protagonist is to complete reincarnation, because he has already begun to "hunt" for animals, forgetting that he has a dog's heart. The analysis of the hero accurately demonstrates all the qualities that are propagated in human society. The last betrayal in Sharikov's life was a denunciation of the professor himself, after which Preobrazhensky decided to turn everything back and turned Polygraph Polygraphovich back to Sharik.

Conclusion

Unfortunately, such changes usually take place much more complicated and longer than in the story "The Dog's Heart". An analysis of it proves that the author has shown the possibility of changes, but it is worth implementing them or not, whether to become a righteous and honest person, everyone decides on their own.
