The Green Theater (Kiev): description, history

One of the most unusual places of recreation and entertainment in Kiev is the Green Theater, built on the territory of the ancient Pechora fortress and resembling an amphitheater in shape. The institution is located under the open sky, on the banks of the Dnieper. In Kiev - this is one of the best places for a party, concert or other entertainment.

History of occurrence

According to some archival records, the original design, on the site of which today is the Green Theater (Kiev), went deep into the earth on 9 levels. By the middle of the XIX century there was a need to strengthen the territory of the Pechora fortress. To cover the ravine, which was located between Arsenalnaya street (modern name) and the Mariinsky Palace, as well as a water tower, it was decided to erect two retaining walls with internal galleries and loopholes. These fences were military fortifications of the fortress and formed a kind of defensive structure. It could easily accommodate a small garrison of troops. The retaining walls were erected in two stages. The first - the upper one - was built in 1853-1854. The second wall was built in 1856. It was a two-level gallery with loopholes, having a semicircular shape and covering access to the Chain Bridge and the Podolsky Gate (embankment). The underground passage, along which the water pipes ran , connected both walls with Arsenalnaya Street. On it there were workshops with a water tower on the Dnieper.

Existence in the Soviet era

In the last twentieth century, at its very beginning, the Pechora fortress was turned into a warehouse and a water tower. In the postwar 1949, architect Vlasov was commissioned to build an entertainment center on the territory with a cinema hall, an amusement park and an open-air theater. After the Hydropark and Oktyabrsky Palace were opened, the Green Theater (Kiev) was undeservedly forgotten by the residents and guests of the city. The revival of the structure began in the early 80-ies of the last century. Wastewater drains and drainage wells were put in order. They reconstructed and fortified the walls with granite, built balconies for several hundred places. In our time, this complex is almost not used, much dilapidated, in some places it collapsed. Occasionally, concerts are held there, but, in fact, the complex is consigned to oblivion.

Legends

Mass of mystical rumors and terrible puzzles surround the Green Theater (Kiev). Reviews of local residents, and many visitors, contain stories about ghosts wandering around the galleries, people buried alive in the fortress walls. These stories stretch beyond the history of the building with a mystical train. They say that somewhere there, in the very depths of the theater, no-no, and the transition between our world and other worlds is being opened. And how not to be rumored? Numerous fires, periodically striking in the construction of lightning, terrible and incomprehensible deaths of people, fantastic events and phenomena - this is the rich history of this structure.

No wonder that the territory where the Green Theater (Kiev) is located, has been chosen for a while by the Satanist sect. At the present time, of course, there are no rites and sacrifices. Like every "haunted house," the Green Theater allegedly has its Master. He appears on dark nights on the dilapidated walls of an ancient fortress. According to tradition, when visiting the theater it is necessary to greet the Owner, so as not to cause his discontent.

Contemporary Green Theater (Kiev)

The address, where this building is located, is the Park Road, 5. Today it is a club platform in the open air. Until recently it was an exceptionally night setting. In 2014 the site of the Green Theater was also a place for daytime rest. For visitors to the entertainment center, there is a swimming pool, play areas, a grill bar. From the hot sun will save the tents, under which the hammocks are stretched. On the territory of the Green Theater, you can rest easy during the day and have a lot of fun at night.
