Vladivostok is the end of the earth in the full sense. The broken edge of the shore, narrow isthmus, large and small islands - all this is a city that was destined to own the history of the east.

At the edge of the empire

In those distant times today's huge city resembled a small village on the shore of the Golden Horn Bay with dusty sidewalks, broken roads and lush lilac bushes in the front gardens.

The berths, warehouses and border outposts were at a distance from each other. If a ship came into the bay, it was a holiday for all the locals. Sailors as guests of honor drove along the coast. Sometimes it stretched for months, because it took a very long time to travel.

But mindful of the precepts of Great Peter I, no one even thought about building a bridge across the Golden Horn. Vladivostok, like St. Petersburg, was a border city. And bridges, according to military tactics, weaken defense.

Three "necklaces" for the city

Time passed, the city grew, people and transport became cramped and uncomfortable. The distances remained the same, and the time to overcome them increased every year.

At the end of the XIX century, there was an urgent need to build a bridge. Vladivostok at that time was of great interest to Russia. Through it there were trade routes to the east and west. Military ships were based here.

The authorities realized that by combining the two banks, it is possible to accelerate the delivery of goods to the mainland and to the port. The Russo-Japanese wars, the revolution in the country and the subsequent intervention of the Far East did not allow the projects to be realized.

The next time the construction of bridges in the city was remembered only by the sixtieth year of the 20th century. After a trip to America, Khrushchev, seeing Vladivostok, became fired with the idea of having his own San Francisco - with soaring bridges, overpasses, wide embankments and overhanging skyscrapers. Unfortunately, he did not manage to implement his plans, and the city remained the same.

Finally, at the opening of the APEC summit, it was decided to give the city three precious "necklaces" - amazing bridges.

The Golden Bridge

If you go up to the area of the funicular, then the bench for determining the city center is the bay (where the bridge is located with the V-shaped supports) Golden Horn. Vladivostok distinguished itself by decorating the Korabelnaya embankment with an original design.

The first "necklace" enters the bay in a smooth arc and stretches to Cape Churkin. Finally Svetlanskaya Street was able to relieve itself of the burden of traffic congestion. The roads in the historical part of Vladivostok are not very wide, and the increase of lanes is impossible because of the landscape.

The Golden Bridge was conceived as an urgent necessity, but became a pride and a visiting card of the city. There is not a single tourist who was not photographed against the backdrop of the poles in the form of a victory sign.

The construction of such a complex structure can be considered a breakthrough in engineering and architectural achievements.

Stages of construction

In the already distant 2008, a tender was announced for the construction of a bridge in Vladivostok. In June, the results of the contest were summed up. The general contractor of construction chose the "Pacific bridge-building company". Subcontracts have received such well-known enterprises as Primavtodor, Dalmostostroy and others.

Just a month later, they started the first stage - laying a tunnel, which will simplify the entrance to the future bridge. An underground structure of 6 meters high and 250 long has a separating wall made of concrete in the middle. Each side has 2 lanes.

The next two years were needed for the construction of pylon support. Works were conducted from the two sides of the bay towards each other. Almost a year left on the stretching of the guys and the installation of spans.

At the end of April 2012, the last weld was welded. The completion of the construction was honored by the presence of the most eminent residents of the city.

The bridge blocks were assembled from domestic steel at the shipyard in Nakhodka. When choosing the manufacturer, the guys stopped at a firm from France. Products with a service life of 100 years - the best guarantee of quality. To stretch it took 42 kilometers of guys.

Since 2010, the development of the project and the subsequent installation of the bridge lighting have been carried out. It was decided to install daily and festive illumination.

In June and July 2012, the construction and asphalt paving was painted. Everything was ready for the grand opening of the long-awaited object.

Curiosities and incidents during construction

The implementation of such grandiose projects can not do without accidents and curiosities.

  • The first happened at the very beginning, when constructing a trench for a tunnel. A secret object of the Second World War was discovered.
  • Residents of the city, getting acquainted with the construction budget, assumed that for using the bridge, the city authorities would take money to somehow compensate for the overspending.
  • From the map of Vladivostok, two microdistricts with houses have disappeared. This place was required for the construction of an overpass in front of the bridge.
  • For the work attracted 2 thousand workers. The share of Russians got less than half.
  • Two fires overshadowed the construction. No one was hurt, but the latter was so strong that it had to be extinguished almost 3 hours. Culprits were heat guns, which are used in winter to maintain the right temperature when working with metal.
  • The last curious is more like an ironic joke. The bridge was painted gray, and called Golden.

Bridge to the Russian island

About such happiness the inhabitants of the city could not even dream of. For many decades, the island of Russian remained a military object, closed to the civilian population.

Only in the mid-nineties of the twentieth century, boundless sandy beaches became public. Those wishing to get a secluded holiday chartered boats and went to Russian. By time it took from 40 minutes to 2 hours. Everything depended on the presence of waves and wind in the bay.

As if frozen in anticipation of the completion of construction of Vladivostok. The bridge to Russky Island has the same guy-like design as his elder brother - Golden. They were raised almost simultaneously to the same summit in 2012, whose headquarters are located in the island part of the city.

The route through the Eastern Bosporus has a smaller width, only 4 lanes. But in all other respects he broke all records. Each next sentence can begin with the word "most", and end - "in the world." And these are not naked words.

For the implementation of the project, the most exact calculation of all sections of the structure was required. This is due to the local climate. Sharp temperature changes, frequent winds and storms, high wave and deep ice can affect the operation of the structure.

Final work on the installation was carried out at night, because due to the heating of the metal under the sun, it is impossible to make exact adjustments to the structures.

The bridge was opened noisily and solemnly. It was a birthday present for the city.

Low-water bridge

Construction of low-water was conducted without much noise. Despite this, its significance for the city is invaluable. To unload the streets of the city is the main task entrusted to the bridge. Vladivostok got the opportunity to enter the federal routes bypassing the central streets.

When you go on the bridge, only in the middle you begin to understand that there is water around. Instead of pigeons and crows, gulls are planned, and the water on the windshield is not rain, but splashes of roaring waves.

Low water has 4 lanes of one-level traffic. The pedestrian zone is absent, instead of it narrow corridors for the attendants are left. The acceleration on the bridge can be up to a speed of 100 km / h. For lighting at night and during fogs, LED lights of a new generation are used.

The length of the bridge Vladivostok-Russky Island is impressive, but even it seems like a little short in comparison with the low-water one. Taking into account the junctions, it turned out to be more than 5 kilometers.

Skeptics claimed that the bridge across the Amur Bay would be harmful to climatic conditions. In particular, low-water will interfere with the movement of ice in the bay. So it or not, time will decide. Technologies do not stand still, and when a problem arises, there is necessarily a solution.

Future plans

Three bridges were very useful. Their construction inspired the authorities of the region to new ideas. How many bridges are planned to be built in Vladivostok? Here are a few discussed projects:
