The drug "Levomycetin": indications for use and contraindications

Modern man is accustomed to swallow antibiotics at every necessary and unnecessary event. Therefore, if we happen to get acute poisoning, everyone around us unanimously advises the drug "Levomycetin". But all drugs must be taken cautiously, and antibiotics - especially carefully. And if many people advise taking Levomycetin against diarrhea, stop following such advice. It is better to read the instructions.

Antibiotic "Levomycetin" is available in the form of tablets, including coated and prolonged action, aerosol and solution for external use, capsules, powder for the preparation of solution for intramuscular and intravenous injection, as eye drops and eye ointment. This drug can have many different names: for example, drugs "Chloramphenicol", "Tifomycetin", "Paraxin", and others, but the treating substance is always laevomycetinum, levomitsetin. Indications for use of this drug are strictly limited, and it is worth taking this remedy only after consulting a doctor.

Most often the drug "Levomycitin" is used as a fixative, but this does not mean that it should be taken with poisoning, when there is nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. This drug is a very strong broad-spectrum antibiotic. It is prescribed, like all antibiotics, for the destruction of various pathogenic microorganisms - bacteria, cocci, spirochetes, some large viruses.

That's why in ordinary food poisoning should not be prescribed drug "Levomycetin": indications for use are strictly limited to cases of damage to the body by pathogenic bacteria. It is mainly prescribed for infectious and inflammatory diseases such as paratyphoid, abdominal and typhus, dysentery, tularemia, brucellosis, whooping cough, sepsis, as well as pneumonia, meningitis, osteomyelitis, and less often with cystitis. And with food poisoning take sorbents (the same coal) or saline solutions. The antibiotic "Levomycitin" does not eliminate the poison from the body, and with food poisoning it can only exacerbate the situation by "eating" all intestinal bacteria and provoking the intestinal dysbacteriosis.

But with very serious infectious diseases affecting the gastrointestinal tract, in cases where both streptomycin, and sulfanilamide, and penicillin both pass, levomycetin is effective. Indications for the use of this antibiotic indicate that it actively destroys the synthesis of protein pathogens, acting bacteriostatically. It is absorbed by the gastrointestinal tract, and 2-3 hours after taking the drug, its maximum concentration in the blood is reached.

Since levomycitin is concentrated in the tissues of the kidneys, liver and brain, and also enters the breast milk, there are certain contraindications to its adoption. These are various diseases of kidney and liver, pregnancy and lactation periods, blood formation disorders, glucose enzyme deficiency, chloramphenicol individual intolerance, and some skin diseases. The drug can not be consumed with alcohol - it develops a disulfiram reaction.

But there are a number of skin diseases in which doctors and cosmetologists prescribe antibiotic "Levomycetin". Indications for use indicate that the drug is effective in inflammatory processes of skin, pimples and acne (fatty seborrhea and adolescent acne). It is prescribed in cases of infected, purulent wounds and with burns, trophic ulcers and pressure sores. Especially for external purposes, the drug is released in the form of alcohol (with salicylic acid and ethyl alcohol), aerosol, ointments that are prescribed for otitis.

The drug can also be produced in the form of an injection powder or solution, which is widely used in folk medicine as a remedy for youthful acne. A solution of levomycetin from acne, if desired, can be made independently: in levomitsitinovy alcohol should be added 2 rastolchennye tablets "Trichopol." Apply a cotton swab on the pimples.
