The crisis in Ukraine: causes and consequences

We hear about the crisis in Ukraine every day: on TV, radio and in newspapers they tell about military actions, the death of civilians. All this is very scary, and the death of ordinary people cold blood in the veins. What are the causes of the crisis in Ukraine? Let's try to figure it out.

The material condition in Ukraine was heavy before the crisis. People noted that the neighboring countries - Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria - 20 years ago in terms of living standards were on a par with Ukraine, and now they live much better. Ukrainians believed that the reason for improving the lives of neighbors is their entry into the European Union.

Causes of the crisis in Ukraine

Yanukovych came to power with the promise that Ukraine would join the European Union, and people were ready to tolerate this power and wait for the start of a new beautiful life. Most likely, the future of Ukraine in the European Union is somewhat embellished by the inhabitants of this country, but this is another story. So, the political crisis in Ukraine began when Yanukovych suspended work to advance the country to the European Union and started moving in the opposite direction.

People felt deceived, they realized that they would not be able to improve their lives, and on the night of November 21-22, the Maidan appeared.

The crisis in Ukraine has raised hundreds of people who are dissatisfied with the current authorities. They took up arms, Molotov cocktails, burned rubber and smashed the city.

On November 30, the Ukrainian authorities tried to use force and disperse the protesters, but they did not succeed. There were different categories of people on the Maidan: an offended people demanding membership in the European Union, politicians and radicals. The latter had a significant advantage, the whole opposition was beaten to them. The country split into two parts, and none of them wanted to hang a white flag.

The ceasefire happened only after 2 months. On February 21, a peace agreement was signed between the government and the opposition. From that day the Constitution of 2004 was to begin to operate, and also the early presidential elections of Ukraine had to take place. Both sides pledged not to use force. But within a day, the opposition seized and overthrew the current Ukrainian government. Yanukovych had to flee from his country to Russia. The new government appointed presidential elections on May 25, 2014. Before that, Alexander Turchinov was appointed Acting Head of State.

Separation of Ukraine

But not all Ukrainians were pleased with the new government. The Crimea and Sevastopol decided to hold a referendum, at which the question of joining Russia was decided. People are tired of enduring the crisis in Ukraine, and on May 16, 2014 a referendum was held in these cities, according to which it became clear that 96% of the voters wanted their land to be part of the Russian Federation.

March 21, Crimea and Sevastopol became subjects of Russia. The inhabitants of these cities cried with happiness and were very happy to return home. Throughout Russia, concerts were held in support of "new Russians", and when people first saw Vladimir Putin, they shouted "thank you" to him for a long time.

Sanctions against Russia

But not everyone was happy reunion. The United States, and then other countries, began to impose sanctions against Russia. They consisted in the fact that some Russian politicians were prohibited from entering the territory of the United States.

After Crimea, three more regions have decided to disconnect from Ukraine : Luhansk, Donetsk and Kharkov. Thus, the People's Republic of Donetsk, the People's Republic of Lugansk and the People's Republic of Kharkov appeared.

The fire in the House of Trade Unions

On May 2 something terrible happened in Odessa that shocked the whole of Russia. The protesting people began to shell out, and when they hid in the House of Trade Unions, they closed the door outside and set the building on fire. Fire trucks were not allowed to drive to extinguish a fire. People who jumped out of the windows and stayed alive were shot. In total, 48 people died on this day.

The crisis in Ukraine was only gaining momentum. Acting President Alexander Turchinov ordered the liquidation of the conflict in the east of Ukraine and allowed to use weapons for this purpose. All May fighting took place between the militia and the national guard of Ukraine.

On May 11, there were referendums in Donetsk and Lugansk. As a result, it became clear that most of the residents support the idea of independence of the regions. On the same days, it was announced that the People's Republic of Donetsk and the People's Republic of Lugansk will not participate in presidential elections in Ukraine on May 25.

Presidential elections

Poroshenko won the presidential election. He promised that he would stop the punitive operation and stop the death of civilians. But all this was just words. There was some breathing after all. The authorities of Ukraine tried to negotiate with the militia, but the talks did not lead to anything. Poroshenko gave the order to clean out all the settlements that were against the new government.

When is the end?

The political crisis in Ukraine was marked by a ban on the broadcasting of Russian TV channels. In turn, Ukrainian television says that Russia is going to war against Ukraine. People are frightened. The National Guard of Ukraine travels around the villages and takes men from 18 to 40 years to serve in the army. Those who try to hide, kill.

Currently, there are fighting for Lugansk and Donetsk region. Every day people get under fire. A group of punishers shoots even children. Every day civilians die. People with fear abandon everything and flee to Russia. In the Rostov region is a tent camp for refugees from Ukraine. People are provided with psychological and material assistance. According to the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, all refugees will be provided with housing and work.

The crisis in Ukraine has lasted more than 8 months. Killed hundreds of civilians, Russian correspondents. Thousands of refugees and the same number of people who stayed in Ukraine in hot spots, live in basements. What will be next? What will end the crisis in eastern Ukraine? Wrong, it is known only to God alone. We still have to wish patience to the Ukrainian people and the wisdom of the Ukrainian authorities.
