The city of Sarapul: sights. What to see in Sarapul

In the southeast of Udmurtia, on the bank of the Kama River, one of the most ancient cities of the Perm Region is Sarapul. From Izhevsk it is separated by 62 km, and from Moscow - 1250 km.

Back in 1707, there was a village of the same name, which in 1780 received the status of a city. Convenient geopolitical and geographical location allowed Sarapul to become one of the most famous cities of the Kama region.

Climate

The city is located in a temperate continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. In the summer months, the thermometer often rises to +36 ° C, and in the middle of winter the temperature drops to -34 ° C.

Sights of Sarapul

In Udmurtia, it is the second most populated city after the economic development of Izhevsk. The oldest city of the republic has preserved to our days a historical center, the main decoration of which are rich merchant houses. G. Sarapul has more than 150 buildings, which are attributed to the architectural monuments of the XIX century.

This city is the birthplace of the legendary Nadezhda Durova, who during the war of 1812 was the orderly of Kutuzov. In the vicinity of the city was born the famous Udmurt writer IG Gavrilov, who became the founder of the Udmurt Theater of Opera and Ballet. Local residents are proud that a famous Soviet actor Oleg Zhakov was born on their land, who gained fame after his work in such films as "We are from Kronstadt", "Great Citizen", "Deputy of the Baltic".

Sighting place on the Ural Mountains

From here usually all the sightseeing routes around the city begin. Mount Ural townspeople called the observation deck, which offers a stunning view of Sarapul. Of course, calling the hill on which the site is equipped with a mountain, the locals got a little heated, but at the same time the playground became very popular. People come here to admire the sunset, and lovers meet here in the dawn.

Merchant houses

Tourist city is not Sarapul. Its sights nevertheless arouse great interest among all who come here on personal or business matters.

Dacha Bashenina - a magnificent white building, which was erected in 1909, in the wooded part of the city. Its owner was PA Basingen - a merchant, patron of art, a respected resident of Sarapul. The project was developed by the architect IA Charushin. The building was decided to build in the Art Nouveau style, which at that time was very popular in Russia.

An interesting feature of this building is an optical illusion: looking at it from afar, or viewing a photo, you will think that it is wooden. In fact, it is built of stone, which imitates the country wooden architecture. After the death of PA Bashenin, the dacha was inherited by his younger brother Peter, who lived here until 1917.

Then the mansion was nationalized. It organized a sanatorium for homeless children, a surgical building, a tuberculosis clinic, and even a commissariat. Since 1991, the building, along with the adjacent park, was attached to the Museum of History. Restoration work was carried out here, and in 1995, the famous villa opened its doors to visitors. Today it is a very popular and recognizable landmark of the city.

Koreshev's House

Sarapul was always attractive to the merchant class. The sights that have survived to this day only confirm that rich merchants simply competed, striving to build luxurious palaces for their families with incredible architectural delights.

Participated in this competition and timber merchant, public figure PF Koreshev. He ordered a project for the architect IA Charushin, and soon a mansion with scaly domes, wrought-iron weathervanes, magnificent facade decoration was built. This is a typical example of Ural architecture of those times, in which elements of neo-Baroque and Art Nouveau are combined.

In the building were located simultaneously office, living quarters and a shop. On the backyard there were subsidiary buildings. After the revolution (1917) the building was nationalized. For more than thirty years, there was a city council, then the Palace of Pioneers. And today the building is given to the city registry office.

Museum of History and Culture

If you want to know more about how Sarapul developed and lived, you should start seeing the sights from this museum. Its construction was initiated by the city authorities in 1909. Local residents actively supported this undertaking. They began to bring interesting things from their personal archives, many of which were of historical value.

Over a long history, museum funds have increased. Today their collection is about 200 thousand rare exhibits. A feature of this museum is the design of the hall - visitors enter the old city of Sarapul, with merchant shops, photos of famous city dynasties, carved platbands and wrought-iron gates.

The monument to N. Durova

This sculptural composition appeared in the city in the summer of 2014. The monument to Nadezhda Durova in Sarapul is established in honor of the bicentennial of the beginning of the European campaign of the Russian army, in which N. Durova took part. In honor of her selfless service to the Fatherland in the city, it was decided to install a sculpture of the work of Vladimir Surovtsev - People's Artist of Russia.

Nadezhda Durova became the first hussar, the first female officer in Russia to take part in the battle of Borodino. In Sarapul, she lived a little over thirty years. From here she went into the active army, along with the Cossack regiment.

To create a monument, the city authorities allocated funds, and on the Day of the City, it was solemnly opened. The monument is located on the site where once stood the father's house of Hope.

Temple of Xenia of Petersburg

Fans of cult architecture will also be interested in Sarapul. The sights here are not as ancient as in many of our cultural centers, but nevertheless they are of historical value.

The operating temple of Xenia of St. Petersburg is located in the very center of the city. It was built in 1911 and consecrated in the same year. The building, built of burnt bricks, looks majestic - painted vaults, sparkling in the sun dome perfectly preserved to this day. Surprisingly, during the Soviet era the church was not closed, it remained one of the few active temples of the Volga region.

Nowadays, worship services are held in the church and the believers of the city and its environs visit it. Territory is well maintained and landscaped - flower gardens are broken, shops are installed.

Fire Tower

This building in the city is often called the "old tower". The fire tower is a unique sight of the city. There are two such buildings in Russia - in the Omsk region and in Udmurtia.

The Sarapul tower was built in 1887 on behalf of the city council. Despite the past centuries, and today the construction looks very impressive, despite the fact that part of the building, dating back to the end of the XIX century, has long been demolished. The building is built on one of the highest points of the city - on Liberty Square. It differs by a pronounced centric composition. The most famous part of the building is a fire tower with a nine-storey building.
