The city of Barnaul, which region or regions surrounds it

The subjects of the Russian Federation 85, including republics and regions, regions and cities of federal significance, autonomous regions and autonomous regions. All of them have their capitals - the main cities in which the authorities are located.

The capital of the Altai Territory

The administrative center of the Altai Territory, which is part of the Siberian Federal District, is the city of Barnaul. Which area or areas have to do with it? Only bordering with the Altai Territory: in the west - two areas related to Kazakhstan, in the east and north - Novosibirsk and Kemerovo. His area, bearing the name of the city, he does not.

Reason and history of occurrence

The founder of the city is the Siberian industrialist Akinfiy Demidov. The place of confluence of the Barnaulka river in the Ob was chosen by him for the construction of a copper smelting plant. In honor of this influx in 1730, the city was founded, called Barnaul. Which area covered it in those days? Tomsk province, whose district city it becomes in 1822. Before that, immediately after Demidov's death, in 1745 around the Barnaul was formed Kolyvan-Voskresensky mountain district, named after the oldest local plant.

The beginning of rapid development

And already in 1750, after the transfer of the Barnaul plant to the ownership of the Romanovs, 17 furnaces were put into operation here, and Barnaul (the mining and manufacturing industry) began to acquire the features of the "mountain city", the status of which it will receive in 1771. This is where experienced experts begin to gather, one of which was Ivan Polzunov, who produced the world's first steam engine. Her tests were conducted on the shore of Barnaulka in 1766. The city becomes an industrial and cultural center (already in 1764 there is opened a technical library, which has 7 thousand books), quickly rebuilt on the St. Petersburg projects. He was so good that the traveler PP Semenov-Tian-Shansky called him "Siberian Athens".

Unique feature

The city has a glorious history, but there is one distinctive feature that only Barnaul has on the entire territory of the Russian Federation. What area surrounds it? Barnaul city agglomeration, consisting of two urban districts and one municipal district (Novoaltaysk, Barnaul, Pervomaisky rn). The only territorial unit of Russia with such a scheme, which passed the approval procedure in the Ministry of Regional Development, is in the north-east of the Altai Territory. The population is rapidly approaching one million people. This is explained by the fact that the region is industrial and rich in minerals. In addition to cobalt, nickel, coal, iron ore and precious metals, the region where Barnaul appeared in 1730 is famous for its inexhaustible deposits of porphyry, jasper, marble of rare species and reserves of drinking water. On maps of Russia, he first appeared in 1745 (in Atlas Rossiyskiy, published in St. Petersburg).

Modern History

The city is famous for its theaters. Not every regional center has so many, besides, they are located in very distinctive buildings, which gives them extra charm.

In Barnaul in 1823 the first museum of local lore was opened beyond the Urals. And in 2012 in the building, which is a historical monument, the only one of its kind is the "Mountain Pharmacy". There are modern museums, one of them is dedicated to VM Shukshin, a native of these places. His name is one of the regional theaters of drama. Barnaul is a prosperous, modern city.

Endangered settlements

True, on the territory of Russia so far (this is the key word) there is another town called Barnaul. What area surrounds this former settlement? The Kurgan. The village belongs to the "disappearing", although once there was a collective farm, a village council, the number of inhabitants was approaching 400. Now the memory of him is stored by a three-tier obelisk dedicated to the dead soldiers, and a rural cemetery.
