The capital of Panama is Panama City

Panama is a state that is located on the narrow Panama Isthmus, connecting the two American continents, between Colombia and Costa Rica, and resembles the Latin letter "S". Almost the entire history of the country since its separation from Colombia is inextricably linked with the Panama Canal. This structure is rightly considered one of the most important in the history of mankind, since it allowed ships to get from the Pacific to the Atlantic without needing to skirt the whole continent - South America. And you can show where the capital of Panama is on the world map? For those who do not know - on the shore of the bay, a little east of the entrance to the Panama Canal.

The capital of Panama

The main city of the country (its inhabitants call Panama City) is a modern metropolis with more than a million population, where a significant part of the largest enterprises of the state are concentrated. In addition, Panama City has a host of large international corporations, and the city is rightfully considered the most important cultural and educational center of Central America. In recent years, the extremely diverse population of Panama City has been replenished by the Indians from surrounding villages, emigrants from the Arab States and India, as well as thousands of pensioners from the United States and many European countries. The latter circumstance is yet another confirmation of the fact that this city is considered the safest and most convenient for living in the western hemisphere.

History

The capital of Panama was founded almost five centuries ago by the Spanish conquistadors as the first port of the Spanish kingdom in the Pacific Ocean. Thanks to its successful location, very soon the city became the most important shopping center on the border of two continents. However, in the second half of the seventeenth century, the old Panama was burned to the ground almost as a result of the attack of English pirates, and it was restored only a few years later, seven kilometers from its former place. The first push, which led to the rapid economic development of the capital, was received in 1848, when gold was found in California, and the city became a transit point for those who were heading to the west coast of the United States of America. And its real flowering began with the construction of the Panama Canal. In addition, the capital of Panama experienced a banking boom during the seventies and eighties of the last century, which was associated with the opening here of branches of most of the world's largest banks.

sights

The capital of Panama is a great place for rest and excursions, especially as there are many interesting sights here. Particularly interesting are the ruins of Panama Viejo - what remains of the medieval Spanish city after the attack of the pirates. Despite the past centuries, these ruined houses, fortress walls and temples make quite a strong impression and allow us to imagine what a flourishing city was the "first" Panama. No less interesting is the excursion to Casco Viejo - the old city, where the modern capital of Panama originates. There are many colonial buildings preserved and most of the city's museums are located, including the Museum of the Panama Canal. Besides, in Casco Viejo you can see the exquisite white palace Palacio de las Garzas, which today is the residence of the country's president, and the main cathedral of the state - the Metropolitan. Also, tourists should visit the Opera House, or at least inspect this building from the outside, as it is one of the oldest and most colorful in the city.

Entertainment

Panama is a holiday city! There are several hundred clubs, bars and discos. The main entertainment zone extends along the new promenade, where in the mornings you can meet hundreds of fans of jogging and cycling. In general, bicycles are very popular in Panama. For example, tourists are happy to go to the gateway of the Panama Canal - Miraflores, next to which is the artificial spit El Kasuway to ride a rented tandem or a single bike. During such a trip they have a unique opportunity to admire the panorama of Panama, stretched from one side of the spit, and the types of canals along which the giant ships swim. But lovers of nature can get real pleasure by going on a funicular ride through the Rainforest Rainbow Rain Forest.

Festival

However, to really have fun in Panama, you need to come there at the end of winter - early spring, when the whole country is having fun and dancing, rejoicing at the carnival "Humbo Rumba". The main part of the events of this colorful festival takes place in the Old Town, where cheerful performances are played in the streets, and the residents of Panama City and the guests of the city who joined them tirelessly poured water on each other and showered confetti.
