The breadth of the assortment of the St. Petersburg market leaves much to be desired

The fact that today St. Petersburg represents a great trading empire and constitutes a healthy competition to the Moscow food markets, even a child knows. However, few ask the question: are there any gaps in the St. Petersburg commercial business and who are able to fill them with? The abundance of grocery supermarkets, stalls and shops near the house provide an ordinary buyer a good choice. Every consumer is free to choose whether to buy milk from the store at the house or go to the supermarket, where all the products are much cheaper, but the breadth of the assortment is much lower. However, a person wants to buy not only cheap goods, but also qualitative, and this aspect in some sectors of our city is an insurmountable problem.

St. Petersburg is full of an abundance of fast and not very healthy food, but is experiencing a significant deficit in fresh vegetables. If with cabbage and potatoes the situation is still good in principle, then to buy fresh cauliflower, which even Avicenna considered a storehouse of vitamins, the hostess will have to get up early in the morning and go to the city market. And this is in view of the fact that cauliflower is quite unpretentious and may well grow in our region. A similar situation unfolds around Brussels sprouts, kohlrabi and other crops, abundantly saturated with vitamins and microelements. The reason, most likely, lies in the impossibility of keeping the vegetables fresh, and therefore Petersburgers are offered a huge selection of fresh-frozen vegetables - just vitamin abundance from the sachet. The breadth and depth of the network retail mix remains high, but large supermarkets do not cope with the problem of preserving a large number of vegetables, and small entrepreneurs, unfortunately, can not provide fresh vegetables to all residents of St. Petersburg. The leading position in the food market is firmly maintained by the Pyaterochka chain of stores, only in St. Petersburg 238 outlets of this brand operate, accounting for more than 50% of the network supermarket market. Apparently, the breadth of the range of products does not represent a possibility for networkers to save it, and therefore large traders often prefer the quantity to quality. Quality and fresh vegetables can now be purchased only in food markets, where they offer surpluses from their household plots to gardeners and truck farmers. However, they also do not have the opportunity to saturate a nearly five million city with vitamin diversity right from the garden.

A similar situation is with catering enterprises, in which thousands of Petersburgers and guests of the northern capital are forced to dine and have supper. The abundance of fast food is now amazing, at every corner in St. Petersburg you can now find a tent with shawarma and pizza. Nevertheless, it is not so easy to find healthy and useful fast food in the vegetarian style in the food market of St. Petersburg. Of course, there are a few vegetarian restaurants in St. Petersburg, but the breadth of the assortment in them is not much different from simple eateries, and not every inhabitant of the northern capital can afford to dine in them. Most businessmen and business people are forced to eat themselves in cafes and restaurants during the day, why are they still not concerned about the availability of fast and healthy food? Vegetarian food costs an order of magnitude cheaper, it is completely incomprehensible why domestic entrepreneurs do not seek to conquer this still undeveloped branch of the food industry. In tents with Chinese food, the breadth of the range also leaves much to be desired, of course, here you can meet "Kroshka-potato" and spring rolls, but it's almost impossible to eat it every day. "McDonald's" contributed to the solution of this problem and pleased vegetarians with vegetarian cheeseburgers, but this is not enough, given that the fans of healthy food in St. Petersburg is becoming more and more. Noodles with vegetables and fried Chinese rice are far from the whole variety of vegetarian menus that can be represented by fast food pavilions in St. Petersburg. Vegetarian cuisine is an abundance of useful fiber saturated with vitamins, unfortunately, domestic entrepreneurs do not take it into account.

Despite the overcrowding in the food market of the northern capital, the breadth of the product range in some areas of industry leaves much to be desired and there are free niches that need to be filled in order to provide Petersburgers with quality and healthy food. The city is waiting for enterprising and business people who are able to take care of the nation's health and saturate the St. Petersburg market with quality products. It is unclear one thing - when will this happen?
