"Tale of a goat": a summary

Samuil Marshak's fairy tale tells the story of a goat who lived for many years with his grandfather and grandmother in the courtyard. Once he heard the owners complaining of old age and infirmity. It is already difficult for them to manage their own business, and there are no children and grandchildren who could help. Then the goat offers to help them. Grandfather and grandmother are surprised that their goat can talk, but give their consent.

The goat prepares dinner for the grandfather with the grandmother, feeds them and puts them to bed. While the old people fall asleep, he sings a lullaby to them and spins. Then he decides to go to the forest for mushrooms, since it was raining since morning. In search of mushrooms the goat comes into the thicket, where it is attacked by seven hungry wolves. A brawl is tied, during which the goat successfully fights off its numerous enemies. At this moment he hears the voices of his grandfather and grandmother, who call him. They woke up, saw that there was no goat, and went to look for him. The goat frightens the wolves, tells them that his master is a stern man and he will not stand on ceremony with them. Wolves in fear run away. Grandfather and grandmother find their favorite, and they all return home together.

Samuil Marshak "Tale of a goat": actors

There are ten characters in this work. Grandfather and woman are people of advanced years who have lived a long life. They did not have the energy to keep the economy: to go for water, to chop wood, to heat the stove, to cook food, to clean in the hut. They regret the absence of children who could take care of them.

The goat is a character that is endowed with a number of qualities that are characteristic of people. He is smart, smart, brave. He can talk, walk on forepaws, can cook, chop wood, spin.

Wolves are negative characters. They are hungry, angry, aggressive. However, their attempt to eat a goat turns against them. In the course of the story, the reader sees how they quarrel with each other and refuse to obey the leader.

Samuil Marshak, creating animal characters, took advantage of the technique characteristic of Russian folk tales. Their heroes - representatives of the animal world - were also endowed with traits inherent in humans.

The role of remarks in a work

Many readers ask what the remarks are. In the "Tale of a goat", as in other dramatic works, you can find fragments of text that do not directly relate to the plot. These author's notes are remarks. Most often they are placed in brackets and specify the place and time of action, intonation, movement and facial expression of the actor.

The remarks in Marshak's "The Tale of the Goat" help the reader understand where, when and at what time the action takes place, what feelings the characters are experiencing. In the text you can find the following author's notes:

- "looks through the window";

- "appearing on the threshold";

- "puts the cauldron in the oven";

- "Feeds the grandfather and the woman";

- "Leader";

- "from afar";

- "a little closer";

- "both are crying sobs";

- "appears from behind the trees";

- "sing" and others.

The meaning of the remarks is great, so the reader must pay attention to them. This applies not only to Samuel Marshak's play The Tale of the Goat, but also to other dramatic works.
