Discussion is a democratic form of business conversation

At the heart of any interaction between people is communication. His right organization determines the effectiveness of activities in all spheres of life.

To organize communication in production conditions, management employees have to spend about 80% of their working time. Therefore, the ability to communicate is no less important than direct knowledge and business experience.

Communication differs in content and saturation. Its quality largely depends not only on the main content, but also on the form. Correctly selected form helps to achieve important goals faster.

One of the most common forms of business communication is the discussion. This is a kind of exchange of thoughts, which differs from others in specific features. It is determined by the opposing nature of the actions of the participants in the conversation.

The discussion is a public discussion (for example, at a production meeting, meeting, group meeting, etc.) of some controversial issue. With the help of this type of communication, problems are solved through juxtaposition, clash of thoughts and various positions, as well as through their assimilation and mutual enrichment of the problem being solved.

With the proper organization of negotiations, business discussion helps to direct it to perform such functions as finding new directions of work, initiating promising events, monitoring initiated cases, exchanging information, communicating workers in the same business area, supporting business contacts, developing ideas and ideas, etc.

In this aspect, the discussion is the most democratic form of conducting a business conversation, which allows for a free exchange of opinions and decision-making, which are developed with the general consent and subsequent approval by management.

Interpersonal communication in the form of discussion is carried out much more often than it may seem. It has both pluses and certain disadvantages. The main task is to minimize possible negative moments. This helps to increase the level of trust and respect between members of the team.

Since the discussion is not only a conversation, but also a lot of confrontation between the interlocutors, it implies a sort of verbal "ping-pong", when the opinions of some participants are not accepted by others and "fought" towards opponents. Often attempts to prove one's right result in disregard for the principles of tact, and communication is on the verge of mutual insults and the transition to polemics. Such a trait is the most dangerous. To avoid such situations, it is necessary to understand the theoretical bases of negotiations.

Discussion is, first of all, the skilful use of such methods as persuasion, correct emotions, compromise solutions, selective selection of information, building reasonable relations between supporters of different positions.

As a communicative tool, the discussion is aimed at promoting ideas and personal beliefs. At the same time, it is not logic that dominates, but emotions. In this regard, when conducting a discussion using such an instrument, it is necessary to make communication as constructive and calm as possible.

After the discussions, many remain unhappy with its results, as their ideas were rejected. Therefore, it is important to be able to use the discussion only in cases where it is really justified. Sometimes it is wiser to replace it with a dialogue or combine them for greater productivity. It is also correct to use "brainstorming", which allows you to put ideas in a more spontaneous form, which makes their screening much less painful for participants. And the most important point: any group discussion is, above all, the ability not only to speak, but also to listen to others. This is much more important than just a dispute.
