Submandibular lymph nodes: causes of inflammation

This body plays an important role in the functioning of the human body. They are responsible for the production of macrophages and antibodies, which fight against infectious particles and foreign bodies. Submandibular lymphonoduses inflame quite often. This happens with both adults and children.

When submandibular lymph nodes are enlarged, this is a pathology, which is most often caused by inflammatory processes in the oral cavity and ENT organs. Chronic infection, which lasts for a long time, involves regional bodies in the process.

Causes of inflammation

Common infections such as colds, tonsillitis, mumps, strep, or ear infection, an abscess in the mouth, measles, rubella, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, laryngitis, etc., can cause inflammation.

The submaxillary lymph nodes in diseases transmitted by bites of sick animals, sexually, in tuberculosis, toxoplasmosis, parasitic infections, as well as when eating poorly cooked meat are increased.

In disorders of the immune system due to diseases such as lupus and certain cancers, this pathology is a common occurrence.

Symptoms of the disease

Submandibular lymph nodes increase in the initial stages of lymphadenitis. They are well palpated and accompanied by painful sensations. The patient has deterioration of health, weakness, malaise. The pathological process causes an increase in temperature, the pain radiates to the ear region.

At the initial stage, it is necessary to take medical measures so that the disease does not progress and the inflammation does not spread to the clavicle area.

Particular attention should be paid to the appearance of a pronounced swelling, which engulfs the entire lower jaw. The skin color changes, which becomes reddish with a crimson hue. Enlarged submandibular lymph nodes restrict the movement of the jaw. Further progression of the disease increases the purulent process. If the skin gets bluish color, then this is already a symptom of phlegmonous inflammation, which requires immediate surgical intervention.

Treatment

Inflamed submandibular lymph nodes are well treated with ginger tea. If pains occur and the temperature rises, non-prescription antipyretic and anesthetics should be taken.

With a decrease in immunity, the infection is activated. Antibiotics can alleviate the condition, but will not relieve the main cause of the increase and inflammation of the submandibular lymph nodes.

A surgical method of treatment with a rapid spread of infection is widespread. During the operation, the purulent node is opened, the cavity is cleaned and a special drain for washing is left for a few days. Therefore, any inflammation and enlargement of the lymph nodes under the jaw must necessarily be inspected. Self-medication here is not worth it, because everything can end very badly. It is better to immediately consult a competent specialist.
