When building a cottage or a country house, an exploited flat roof can be chosen . In this case, you need to apply a special technology. The roof should be resistant to all kinds of influences, and this is possible only when all the layers of the so-called "roofing pie" are precisely executed.

There are two types of this roof:

- Traditional;

- inversion.

Traditional roofing

Installation of the roof in the traditional way. As you move away from the slab, there will be a sloping layer that serves to drain water from the roof. The angle of its inclination is from 0.5 to 3 °. The traditional roof contains several layers. The direction of the water outlet must be specified by the documentation. Arranges the inclined layer below the waterproofing. A layer of waterproofing does not let water into the house. It can be made of PVC-membranes, bitumen or polymeric insulating materials. The thermal insulation layer keeps the heat in the house. It must be properly chosen, otherwise it will get wet and break down. Usually it is protected by waterproofing.

In the case of the inversion variant, everything is done vice versa. Thermal insulation is laid above waterproofing. This is the main difference between these roofing coatings - direct contact of the insulation with water. Inversion operated roof is completed with heaters with low water absorption indicators, for example, foamed glass. In addition, there is also a drainage layer that removes water from the structure. It consists of cavities, through which water, which has got inside, is removed. It also incorporates filter elements that do not allow cavities to silt. As a drainage, geotextiles are often used.

Inversion option

If the roof is an inversion roof, then the same layers are located, counting from the overlapping plate as follows: inclined layer, waterproofing, thermal insulation, drainage, protective and filtering layer. The main advantages of the inversion option are the following: a long service of waterproofing, the ability to quickly remake the roof, heat insulation evenly distributes the load throughout its area. Disadvantages: it is impossible to use cotton wool insulation materials, use of expensive material as drainage.

The traditional roof has the following advantage: it is possible to use inexpensive non-combustible wadded thermal insulation materials. And in general, as a thermal insulation can be used any thermal insulation material. Disadvantages: heavy construction weight, short service life.

Types of use

It can be:

- option with green and pedestrian zones;

- roof-parking;

- roof-terrace;

- green roof.

The variant with a terrace differs in that the materials of the uppermost layer can be different. For example, if ceramic tiles are laid, a cement-sand mortar must be placed under it. Another species is the green roof. It has, instead of the top cover, a fertile land on which various plants, even shrubs and trees, can grow. It happens that on the roof of a parking lot for cars, especially if on the ground there is no place for cars. It is arranged according to the type of roof-terrace. A roof option with landscaping and walks is possible for all types of roofs in use.
