State of Ohio - a fount of attractions and natural beauty

The state of Ohio is located in the north-eastern part of the United States. Its capital is the large and developed city of Columbus, which in 2013 was recognized as the most "smart" city in the world. And this is not the only interesting fact about this state.

Attractions and interesting places

The state of Ohio, whose cities are known all over the world as major industrial, educational and entertainment places, can tell about themselves a lot of interesting things. Take, for example, Zanesville. It is in this city that the bridge is located, the only one of its kind. It is remarkable for its structure - it resembles the letter "Y" in form. This bridge seems to have three ends and roads. Still in the state there are roller coaster, which are the second in the whole world in speed and height.

And in the city of Sandusky you can ride on an attraction, the height of which reaches as much as 128 meters! If you want to admire the beauty of nature, then you should definitely visit the valley of Kayahoga. Its area is about 33,000 acres, and this, perhaps, is one of the most picturesque places in all of America (with the richest fauna). No wonder that almost all tourists go here. You can also visit the waterfall Brandywine - an amazing place, surrounded by coniferous trees. And in the Tinkers Creek canyon you can admire the mysterious landscapes.

Pure nature

Not for nothing in this state there are so many beautiful places with untouched nature. Strictly speaking, most of its territory is represented by endless plains. The state of Ohio is also called the horse chestnut state - all because these trees grow here almost everywhere. But in the western part you can see many wetlands. But in the east - Appalachian plateau, not very high (only 460 meters), but picturesque.

In the north of the state, Lake Erie is located. There are several interesting facts about him. For example, it is the tenth largest freshwater lake in the world. In addition, the warmest of all the Great Lakes is because it is not very deep. Even Erie is the border between Canada and the United States - because of this, there are often disputes concerning the payment of negotiations on mobile phones. It just happens that operators consider these or other calls international. Erie is by no means the only reservoir that Ohio can boast of (USA). Still there is a river of the same name, it is in the south. Ohio is considered the most full-fledged tributary of the Mississippi.

A bit about the capital

As already mentioned, the main city of the state is Columbus. His story began in 1812 - exactly when he was founded. By the way, from the very beginning it was thought that the city, which will be built on this place, will become the capital of the state. And it happened. To date, Columbus is an excellently developed metropolis - from the economic, trade, logistics, industrial and educational points of view. It is not surprising, because here are engaged in trade, banking, health, as well as aviation, defense and food. All this gave a certain result, for example, in 2009 the city's GDP exceeded the figure of $ 90 billion!

Higher education in the prestige of the university

There, in Columbus, is the largest university in Ohio, abbreviated as OSU. Moreover, this educational institution is the third largest in the whole of America. This is a university with a fairly long history, since it was founded in 1870. But initially it was a simple technical school. Who would have thought that a normal agricultural college, located on the outskirts of the city, would turn into a popular educational institution. And if initially only 24 students studied here, today about 42,100 bachelors and about 11,000 doctors and masters are studying at the university.

In the university you can get education in the specialties related to journalism, medicine, jurisprudence, veterinary medicine, trade and agrarian region. However, this is not the only university in which they provide a good basis for further professional work. In total there are about 150 educational institutions in the whole state. And education can be obtained in almost any specialty - from journalism to engineering.

Cities in the state

In Ohio, there are about 12 million people, and the state itself has several dozen cities. The largest are (besides the capital) Cleveland, Cincinnati and Toledo. New Lexington, Warren, Findlay, Parma, Canton, Dayton - all these names of megacities are heard by almost everyone. But there are small towns in the state, one of the smallest is the Oberlin - the population is only about 9 thousand people. A small cozy town, intended for a quiet life, is the complete opposite, say, of Mansfield or Cambridge.

Interesting Facts

Each city or state has its own characteristics and interesting facts, which will always be useful to know. For example, few people know that tomato juice is the official drink of Ohio. Or, for example, that the law allegedly forbids six women (and more) living under one roof. Five - still allowed. There is even a law prohibiting duels, although it is unlikely that these days they are held. And before selling chicken, they are forbidden to paint in any color.

And, finally, another funny law - it is forbidden to install gambling machines in such non-standard places as a barn or a barn. For information, we add that Ohio is a state whose time from Moscow differs for 8 hours. That is, when in the Russian capital people come home from work, in Cleveland they just wake up to go to the office.
