Social status

Social status is the status of a person, determined by its origin, position, economic level, gender. Thus, an individual can be considered a class. The social position of a person is divided into several levels. Consider them all.

A state of birth is a certain status obtained by a person at birth. For example, it could be race, gender or nationality. The natural status remains with the person throughout his life, that is, he does not change. However, there are some exceptions. For example, the status of a member of the royal family, which is given at birth, can be abolished at the end of the monarchy.

Acquired social status is characterized by mobility. This is a post, a post, a financial level achieved by one's own efforts. For example, a person from a poor family opens their own business and creates capital. Or the individual gets promoted by office.

There is also a prescribed provision. That is, this is the status that a person receives regardless of his actions and desires. For example, it can be a social situation, determined by the origin or age. The status can be either acquired or congenital.

As already mentioned, mobility is characteristic of a person's social status. That is, an individual can both rise up the social ladder and descend on it. Such mobility has a more positive effect on society. This creates healthy competition, the emergence of professionals.

Many factors influence the social mobility of a person. Consider the main ones. Determine whether the individual will move along the social ladder, can, given its origin, educational level and even characteristics of his residence. Naturally, to change his status a person must have certain personal qualities. In particular, this is an intellectual level, perseverance in achieving its goals, aspiration to climb the social ladder.

In developed countries, the middle class usually prevails. In Russia, 70% of people are in the lowest socio-economic situation. This includes not only people with low-paid jobs, but also disabled people, pensioners and so on.

There is also such a thing as incompatibility of statuses. This happens if the socio-economic position of a person in a group is higher than that of another. This situation occurs also when the status rights of one individual hinder the fulfillment of the duties of another. For example, a scientist had to change his activities and get a job in a store, or an elderly person fulfills assignments that are more intended for students.

The situation in the society is determined not only by position or financial condition, but also by age, gender, skills, education. In addition, the criteria for awarding a particular status to a particular person depends on the traditions of a particular country. People can belong to the same groups, but their social position can be dramatically different. For example, one person can be the head of the company, and all the rest - only ordinary workers.

So, let's sum up. Each of us is given a certain social status from birth. Each individual is standing on some level of the hierarchical ladder in question. Social position is determined not only by position and earnings, as is often assumed, but also by age, origin, gender, education, skills and many others.
