Sisley Alfred. Biography of the artist and paintings

There are artists whose picturesque canvases seem to be permeated with air and light. This is Sisley Alfred. When you look at his paintings, you want to find yourself in that sunny and beautiful world that this painter saw and the power of his artistic talent was able to convey this vision on canvas. One of the fathers of impressionism - Camille Pissarro - once remarked that Sisley every time wrote in a new way. From the mouth of a venerable artist such words sounded like the highest praise, because this is the quality he considered fundamental in impressionistic painting. Nevertheless, during his lifetime, this talented artist was never able to gain recognition from critics and the public and died in complete obscurity and poverty.

Alfred Sisley - biography, the beginning of the creative path

The future artist was born in Paris, October 30, 1839. Happy parents called the newborn Alfred. It was a well-to-do family, the father of the child successfully traded silk and was able to give his son the best education and education. Of course, the elder Sisley dreamed that his son would follow in his footsteps, and so, when Alfred was 18 years old, he was sent to England to comprehend the commercial business. But it was not commerce that attracted the young man, but painting. In England, he became fascinated by Turner's landscapes and the paintings of Constable and Bonnington.

Upon returning home, Sisley Alfred goes to study at the art workshop of Gleir. There he meets with Auguste Renoir, Claude Monet and Frederic Basile. All four are looking for new ways in art, so Gleir's academic education quickly disappoints them. Sisley and his friends leave for the picturesque village of Chailly near Fontainebleau. It is there that his creative path begins. The artist forever gave his heart to the lovely provincial landscapes.

Further life in art

In 1866, Sisley Alfred worked extensively in the open air at Marlotta with Renoir. In 1866 he painted landscapes in Honfleur. Then the artist is attracted by Argenteuil and, of course, Port Marley, who was especially fond of him.

In parallel with the work Sisley begins to take part in exhibitions. For the first time critics drew attention to him in 1874. I must say that this artist did not feel a great need for fame. He had a reserved and shy temper, he did not strive for leadership. Perhaps it was these qualities that prevented him from achieving the success that accompanied his companions - Monet, Renoir and Pizarro.

After 1877 Sisley Alfred completely ceases to exhibit and entirely devotes his time to painting and family. He lives very modestly, getting for his paintings are pennies. With colleagues in art is practically not communicating. But the hard life circumstances do not affect his painting. Sisley's landscapes are still permeated with light and joy.

In 1897, Sisley arranges a solo exhibition. But the criticism reacted to her with absolute indifference, which became a great blow to the artist. In 1899, at the age of 60, Sisley died, and waited for recognition.
