Sightseeing in Texas. State Highlights

Texas is one of the southern states of America. Its capital "wandered" to different cities 15 times, and the main symbol is the battleship. What are the attractions of Texas? You will find a photo and description of interesting state objects in the article.

Texas State

Texas is surrounded by Oklahoma, Arkansas, New Mexico and Louisiana. The Rio Grande River is one of the main attractions of Texas, shares it with Mexico. In size, Texas is superior only to Alaska. And the number of inhabitants is second only to California.

It is one of the most important centers of the United States. Here, agriculture, industry, education and the financial sphere are developing. The border position of the state played into its favor, combining the American and Spanish cultural traditions into a single whole. This is best seen in San Antonio and El Paso.

The nature of the state is represented by hot, arid deserts on the one hand, as well as prairies and dense forests - on the other. There definitely is something to see here. Tourists here are attracted not only by the cities (Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, etc.), but also national parks, canyons, ranches. Here are the most famous attractions of Texas:

  • The Lyndon Johnson Space Center;
  • The seafront in San Antonio;
  • Alamo - a memorial dedicated to the battle of the same name;
  • Sonora Cave;
  • "Museum of the 6th floor" in Dallas;
  • The Big Bend National Park;
  • The historic park of San Antonio;
  • Aquarium Dallas World;
  • Clyde Warren Park;
  • Pool Hamilton
  • The capitol in Austin.

The Lyndon Johnson Space Center

The city, which is the most interesting and exciting attraction of Texas, is Houston. In its vicinity is the space center, where the headquarters of NASA is located, space technology is developed and astronauts are trained for flights.

Of the 6,000 hectares of the territory, only part of it is open to tourists. You can move around in a small road train. Here is a museum with mock-ups of ships of real size, simulators and themed attractions. The pride of the museum is Apollo, built for the next flight to the moon, but never made its journey.

Historic Park of San Antonio

San Antonio is a piece of Europe in America. The first Europeans arrived here were the Spaniards, as there are a lot of reminders in the city. Historical park is one of them.

The park occupies 334 hectares. On its territory are five Spanish baroque churches, built in the late XVII - early XVIII century. They were erected by the colonialists in order to spread the Spanish culture and Christianity on the continent, which they are doing up to now.

In addition to the historic park, in San Antonio there are no less interesting sights of Texas, for example, a cozy pedestrian promenade, the memorial center of the Alamo or the tower of the Americas, 190 meters high.

The Museum of the 6th Floor in Dallas

By name, not everyone understands what this museum represents. It is dedicated to the 35th US President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, or rather his death. The murder of the leader of America still leaves a lot of questions and is the subject of versatile disputes. It was done on the main street of Dallas in 1963, right from the sixth floor window of the building, which has now become a museum.

The museum itself is located on the floor above. It can be found not only with known sad events, but also learn details about the life of the entire Kennedy family. Inside there are many photographs, that rifle and even the wax figure of Harvey Lee Oswald, an officially recognized murderer. Here you can see short documentaries about the US president, and from the window see a painted cross - the place where Kennedy's car was passing at the moment of the tragedy.

Hamilton Basin

To the creation of this landmark of Texas man has nothing to do. At the site of the reservoir there used to be a cave completely hidden from human eyes. Underground waters gradually washed away its limestone walls, and at one point its dome simply collapsed. Thus, an incredibly beautiful natural lake Hamilton was formed with pure water of a green shade.

The surviving part of the cave dome formed a grotto, into which a part of the lake hides. From above, trickles of water flow into it, forming a thin wall of a waterfall 15 meters high. Hamilton is located forty kilometers from the state capital - Austin. You can not reach the lake by car, it will have to be left half a kilometer further, as the territory is protected.

Big Bend National Park

Another natural landmark of Texas is the Big Bend National Park. It closely adjoins the Mexican border. The Rio Grande border river forms small canyons and green oases. The rest of the park is mostly deserted.

Within the Big Bend stretches the long ridge Chisos. Mount Emory - its highest point, which stretches for 2385 meters in height. Part of the park is represented by the Chihuahua desert. Its climate is not as severe as in most deserts, and from March to April, flowers bloom here.

The main vegetation in the park: cacti, yucca, agave and bunch grass. Lizards, snakes and vultures live in the desert, but in the mountains there are deer, bears, mountain lions and more than 400 species of birds.
