One of the oldest Victorian buildings

In 1809 a new exchange building was built. In 1849, thanks to the reconstruction, it expanded. Then Manchester was nicknamed "Cottonpolis", because at that time the prosperity of the trade in cotton fell.

From 1867 to 1874 the construction of the third exchange was conducted. It was located in one of the largest in the UK trade halls. The bombing that took place during World War II substantially destroyed the Royal Exchange Theater. But gradually the building was rebuilt, though the big trading hall is not big anymore.

The world-famous football team
