City of Manchester. From the foundation to our days
The city of Manchester (England) belongs to the largest trade-financial, industrial and transport center of Lancashire (52 cities, 2.5 million people).
The history of the city began in the 10th century, when capital buildings began to appear in the places of the Celtic settlement. In the Middle Ages, the city of Manchester was both a handicraft and a trading point. The very name Manchester translates as "breast-mountain" (mamm - "chest", ceaster - "mountain").
Industrial revolution in the XVIII century gave impetus to the more rapid development of the settlement. The city of Manchester quickly became the hub of the cotton industry, equal in importance and importance to London, Liverpool, Birmingham.
The other side of Manchester is represented by ultramodern areas, vibrant shopping centers, skyscrapers and business lobbies, many shops, youth clubs and restaurants (Exchange Square Square, North Quarter).
