Preparation of materials

Most often, tiling in the bathroom is required. It is laid on the walls, the floor and, sometimes, the bath. You need to choose a tile suitable for these surfaces for wear resistance. It is advisable to make a design project, in accordance with it, to choose the colors, textures and figures, if they are supposed.

And did you know that the pattern can be applied to the tile later in the decoupage technique, which will simplify the choice somewhat, and also reduce the cost, since the tiles with the pattern are more expensive.

Depending on the chosen tile and surface material, a primer, glue, grout, lining, spatulas and rubber trowels are purchased. It will take a ruler-level, chalk, rubber hammer, plastic corners-asterisks.

Surface preparation

Quality tiling in the bathroom is possible if the surfaces are perfectly even. From walls and floor all the original coatings are carefully removed: tile, paint, primer, etc.

Then, the dust is removed. If the bathroom has previously seen foci of mold, then they should be removed and prevented in the future. To do this, rinse the walls and floor with warm soapy water, then run through a solution of copper sulfate and allow to dry.

In rare cases it is allowed to lay a new tile over the old one, but this is undesirable. Two main reasons: the old tile may fall off under the weight of a new one; Slightly, but the interior space of the room will decrease.

Fitting the tiles

One of the important rules for laying tiles is fitting. It is needed for marking surfaces, so that the tiles and patterns are arranged in accordance with the design project. Most often the styling starts from the center. In addition, one complete row is applied to understand whether it is necessary to cut the outer plates.

Tip: if you do not need to cut more than 2-3 cm from the edge of the tile, it is recommended to make halves on both sides of the row, because cutting off narrow strips, it is more difficult to avoid chipping and cracks.

Laying the floor tiles also requires fitting. It can be started to lay from the center or from a wall with a doorway. Each row starts from the middle.

During the fitting, the desired chalk marks are applied to the surfaces. You can put the priority numbers on the tiles themselves, for example, with a water marker, which afterwards is easy to remove.

Bonding tiles

The tiling in the bathroom continues to be glued. This is done with the help of ready-made solutions or dilute dry adhesives. You can use cement, but working with newcomers will be much more difficult.

On the surface area, sufficient for 4-6 tiles, apply the adhesive solution with a special spatula-comb. To him, according to the scheme prepared on the fitting, tiles are applied.

Each plate should be carefully pressed in a circular motion for better grip. For leveling and plate adjustments slide rubber hammer taps. The seams between them can be adjusted with plastic corners-asterisks.

The rules for laying tiles require that the order of gluing be followed: first the walls, then the floor, and only then the bath. The bath is closed with tiles on a previously prepared frame. It can be made from foam or a special panel.

Grout

Grout grouting is done after the glue is completely dry. Maximum drying time can be a day.

Grout is produced in various shades and with different qualities. For the bathroom, it must be water repellent. Apply it by rubber smoothing over the entire glued surface. In order to increase the life of the tile, it is possible to mix the grout with a latex additive, which forms an additional protective layer on the surface of the tile.

Jointing

The installation of tiles in the bathroom is completed by jointing. It is available in special syringe cylinders, conveniently applied. The stitching will make the seams smooth, neat and protect from getting moisture under the tile. It dries up quickly enough for a few minutes. If the tile is pasted on, then only the grouting is sufficient.
