Self-education plan for an English teacher - what is it? Concept, step by step instruction

One of the important conditions for the professional activity of the teacher is the need for self-education. Therefore, according to the requirements of the GEF, an individual or group self-study program for an English teacher is being developed. What does it include?

The subject and plan for the self-education of an English teacher are developed before the beginning of the school year and in the form of a report are submitted at the end.

What is self-education?

Self-education should be understood as an independent educational activity of the teacher, aimed at acquiring new and improving existing skills, skills and knowledge.

Today, self-education is one of the requirements of GEF, and the participants in the process are the director, the head teacher, the chairman of the methodological association and the teaching staff of the school.

Therefore, they actively develop a self-study plan for the English language teacher and work on it. Self-development can be not only professional (English), but also:

  • Psychological-pedagogical (work with students and parents);
  • Psychological (the formation of personal qualities necessary in the work);
  • Methodical (study and approbation of new technologies in the teaching of English);
  • General development (legal, historical, aesthetic, political, computer).

Self-education can take place in individual and group forms.

The individual initiator of self-education is a teacher.

The group includes a methodical association, seminars, workshops and courses to upgrade the skills.

How to choose a theme?

Work on the plan begins with the choice of the topic, since the goals, methods and results of the work performed depend on it. The topic of self-education of an English teacher should be relevant, interesting to the teacher himself, and the knowledge and skills obtained are easily applicable in practice. It is important that it reflects one of the innovations of GEF.

The topic of self-education of an English teacher can be chosen both by the teacher himself and by the method of joining.

How to develop a work plan?

The self-study plan for an English teacher consists of:

  • Explanatory note, which indicates the intention of the teacher to conduct work on self-education and its purpose;
  • The title of the topic and the timing of its implementation, which usually consist of 6 months to 3 years;
  • Goals and tasks that the teacher will achieve after finishing work on the chosen problem;
  • Sources of self-education, which the teacher used when working on a topic;
  • Methods of self-education: the study of literature, the use of new knowledge in practice:
  • Form of work, which can be group and individual;
  • Plan of activities;
  • Expected results;
  • Way and form of demonstrating the work done.

The source of self-education can be not only pedagogical literature, but also:

  • Media (radio and television);
  • Periodicals (magazines and newspapers);
  • Video and audio materials, paid courses online and offline;
  • Travel, exhibitions, theater performances, museums.

For convenience, you can create a self-study plan for the English teacher in the form of a table.

How to work on the plan?

Work on the plan can last from 6 months to 3 years. The process of self-education can be divided into 7 stages:

  1. The definition of the topic, its goals and objectives.
  2. The choice of the direction in which the work will be carried out.
  3. Formulation of expected results.
  4. Selection of materials for the study.
  5. Study materials and improve their skills.
  6. Approbation of new ZUN in practice.
  7. Report on the work done.

Teachers who teach English, have a clear advantage over other subject teachers - knowledge of foreign language allows you to use not only literature in your native language, but also in English.

How to submit a report?

Portfolio or self-education folder of the teacher of English is a report on the past process of self-education. It helps to trace the development of the teacher before and after the process of self-education, systematizes the learning materials and achievements received in the process and expands the library of materials for school joining.

  • Achievements (diplomas, certificates, certificates, certificates);
  • Working materials (abstracts of basic and open lessons, demonstration materials, practical, control and laboratory works, test tests);
  • Report with analysis and conclusions;
  • Recommendations for colleagues.

The report can be presented in:

  • Results of self-education activities;
  • Information on the scientific and methodological activities carried out in the process of self-education;
  • Information on extracurricular work in English;
