Scraping for enterobiasis

Enterobiosis is the most common type of helminthiosis. The causative agents of enterobiasis are pinworms, which usually parasitize the entire length of the colon, as well as in the lower part of the small intestine. Fertilized female pinworms at night go through the anus in order to lay eggs in the folds of the skin, which soon (after 6-7 hours) become invasive. The source of the invasion is the person infected with enterobiasis. Most often, this disease affects children who attend preschool institutions, and very often there is repeated self-infection, so in kindergartens regularly the children are analyzed faeces for enterobiasis. In addition, scraping is taken on enterobiasis in children of all groups.

The appearance of the first symptoms of infection with pinworms is noted 10-14 days after the moment of infection, during this period the pinworms reach puberty and begin to reproduce. The main clinical signs are: a burning sensation and itching in the area of the external genitalia, perineum and anus. Most often these symptoms are manifested at night. As the accumulation of enterobiosis pathogens in the intestine occurs, the itching becomes permanent and rather painful. In addition, children are disturbed by sleep, irritability and capriciousness appear. Quite often there are dizziness, fatigue, decreased appetite, headaches, abdominal pain, teeth grinding and a loose stool. Diagnosis of enterobiasis is very easy, for this purpose scraping is performed on enterobiasis from anal folds. It is desirable that the analysis for enterobiasis is carried out three times at intervals of three to five days.

Over the years of co-existence with the man, pinworms have perfectly adapted and learned to resist many medications. There are cases when this disease has occurred without any significant clinical symptoms, or the symptoms coincided with the manifestations of another species of helminths.

If scraping for enterobiasis gave a positive result, the most important thing is to exclude the possibility of repeated self-poisoning and contamination of others. Otherwise, taking medications will not give any results. It is necessary to follow the rules of personal hygiene, constantly wash your hands (and not only), do regular wet cleaning, ironing things. The life of pinworms is only one month, so the key to the success of treatment is cleanliness, which prevents re-infection. Of the medications, anthelmintics are usually prescribed - mebendazole, pyrantel, etc., which effectively affect both sexually mature larvae and eggs of parasites.

The course of treatment should be supplemented by disinfection of things and household items with which the person infected with pinworms contacted. In the house it is necessary to conduct a number of sanitary and hygienic measures:

  1. All bed linen must be boiled for half an hour, and after drying, thoroughly iron on both sides;
  2. In all without exception, the premises of the apartment must be thoroughly moistened using disinfectants;
  3. All baby toys must be washed with soap;
  4. Carpets, carpets and carpets should be vacuumed, and then after wet processing.

Enterobiosis in children is dangerous because, the child, most likely, will not understand that something is wrong with him. Symptoms of the disease worsen at night, and combing the itching places the child performs in a dream, reflexively. Most often, parents learn about the presence of enterobiasis in a child after their own infection with pinworms or until in the kindergarten everyone is scraped to enterobiosis. It is important to ask the child about his state of health and explain that if he feels anything unusual, he should immediately inform parents about it.
