Russian hockey player Petrenko Sergey: sports career and coaching activities

Petrenko Sergei is a famous Soviet and Russian hockey player. He won at the Olympic Games and World Cup, has the titles of the champion of the USSR and Russia. With different teams he won many national and international cups. After completing his career in the team, "Molot-Prikamye" switched to coaching.

The beginning of sports career

Petrenko Sergey Anatolyevich was born in September 1968 in one of the largest cities of Ukraine - Kharkov. The first skills of playing ice hockey were received here, in the section at the physical culture school.

In 1985, 17-year-old Petrenko enlisted in the local "Dynamo", which performed in the first division of the championship of the USSR. In the first season, the young left forward played 44 fights for his club with very good indicators for his age - 8 goals and 14 assists.

Petrenko drew attention to the coaches of the Moscow "Dynamo", and as a result in 1987 he moved to the capital of the USSR.

Star career in "Dynamo"

In the first for the season in the new club Petrenko, Sergei tried to justify the trust of coaches. In the current drawing of the championship of the Soviet Union, he played in 31 duel, where he scored 7 (2 + 5) points.

The next season began for the metropolitan team very well. She became the owner of the Cup of Berlin, and after - the champion of the USSR. Petrenko went to the ice in 23 games, scored 4 goals and became the author of 6 assists.

In the next, and later in the last championship of the Soviet Union (1991), "Dynamo" twice won gold medals competitions. In addition, the capital team won in the draw of the Cups of Tampere and Lugano.

It was in the 1990/91 season that Petrenko Sergey showed his best performance at that time - 27 (14 + 13) balls in 43 played matches.

The following year, the Moscow "Dynamo" became the first holder of the title of CIS champion. Petrenko with his magnificent game and good performance attracted the interest of not only the coaches of the national team, but also the scouts of the NHL.

Transatlantic career stage

In 1993, Sergei Petrenko in the NHL draft was selected by the "Buffalo Sabers" team . However, the career in the most prestigious hockey league in North America from the Russian striker was not the most successful way. For the new club, he spent only 14 fights, in which he distinguished himself with four assists.

Ending this season and the whole next Petrenko spent in the AHL, playing for the "Rochester American". In his line-up, the striker played 81 games, scored 28 goals and gave 31 assists.

At the end of the 1994/95 season Petrenko decided to return to Russia.

Frequent team change and completion of a career

On his return to Russia Petrenko again became a player of the Moscow "Dynamo". In his composition he became the owner of the MHL Cup. The next season, the striker tried his hand at the Swiss hockey league, playing for HC "Davos". Here for 41 played match Petrenko scored 42 (19 + 23) points.

From 2007 to 2009 Sergey Anatolievich again replenishes the ranks of the capital "Dynamo". During this period, he twice became a member of the Euroleague final and once - the national cup. Despite good results (25 goals and 44 exact matches in 84 fights), Petrenko Sergey again leaves Dynamo.

The following season, the 31-year-old striker was in the Czech club "Vitkovice". For the new team Petrenko scored 7 goals in 29 games played.
So not having fixed in the new club, Sergey Anatolyevich again returns to Russia.

Here he briefly lingers in Novokuznetsk Metallurg, and in the 2000/01 season signs a one-year contract with the Tomakomai team from the Japan Hockey League. Unfortunately, even with very good results (14 goals and 31 assists in 41 games), the new club did not want to renew the contract with the Russian striker.

Once again returning to Russia, Petrenko played for Cherepovets "Severstal", Novosibirsk "Siberia" and Perm "Hammer-Prikamye". It was here in 2004 that he finished his long playing career.

National team appearances

For the first time Sergei Petrenko was summoned to the youth national team of the USSR in 1988. At the home world championship he, along with the team of the Soviet Union, won the silver medals of the World Cup.

Two years later, he was summoned to the united CIS team to participate in the Winter Olympics in Albertville. The striker played in 8 matches and scored 2 goals, and the national team became the winner of the Games. For this achievement Petrenko Sergey was awarded the title of Honored Master of Sports.

In the same year, the hockey player was invited to play for the newly created Russian national team. The first performance at the World Cup was not very successful for her - only the fifth place. But a year later, Russian hockey players with Petrenko in the confidently won the World Cup in 1993.

Coaching activities

After the completion of the playing career, Sergei Anatolyevich became a coach. Since 2011, he worked at the Dynamo Sports School, while preparing for the international competitions the junior Russian national team.
