Ribbon: choice, installation and applications in the garden

The border ribbon is a small cunning of the modern gardener. It allows you to inexpensively and almost instantly change the appearance of the site, bring in a neat appearance of beds, flower beds or edge of tracks, delimit zones and make plant maintenance easier. These rolls of multi-colored plastic can be very widely used in decorating a garden or garden.

Flower beds

The flower garden is an ornament of the garden, so strict requirements are imposed on it. Whichever form you choose to place ornamental plants - a flower bed, a rabbit or mixborder - they should look aesthetically pleasing. It is the curb tape that will help to create a clearly outlined contour of any configuration. At the same time, it will also facilitate watering, weeding, mulching and other regular care. Soil and fertilizer will not fall on the path after the rain, as the plastic can firmly hold all this within the flower garden.

Alpinarium

The alpinarium (a multi-storey flower bed) must be built strong, capable of withstanding rain, wind and other impacts. The border ribbon in this respect is very convenient - it bends at any angle, keeps the shape well, it is easy to make "multi-storey" structures from it.

Lawn

A well-defined lawn that does not get out on the path looks well-groomed and pleases the eye. This effect will help create a narrow green ribbon.

Beds

A curb tape for beds will not only add to the appeal of planting, but also help save water. Moisture, which comes from watering, accumulates where it is needed, without spreading around nearby areas, so its consumption decreases, and the time between irrigation increases.

Tracks

If you protect the path with a plastic curb, this will protect it from weeds and soil shedding from the beds. In this case, you can lay out a path of any shape, the flexibility of the material allows similar experiments.

Which border ribbon is better?

All tapes are made from neutral, environmentally friendly plastic. Most often, Russian (cheapest), Chinese, Polish and German (the most expensive) come on sale. The width of the curb tape can be 10, 15, 20 or 28 centimeters. The thickness varies from half a millimeter to two millimeters. These parameters affect the cost of the product. The most convenient curb tape is the maximum thickness. She will be strengthened by a reinforced edge, however, to the detriment of elasticity.

The quality product has the following properties: resistance to sunlight, which allows not to burn out and not to heat up, the ability to withstand the temperature from -50 to +50 degrees. In addition, plastic does not make noise in the rain, does not rot and does not decompose, does not release toxic substances into the soil and does not contribute to the development of mold. Usually the curb tape serves 5 years.

Installation

First you need to outline the outline of the future bed or flowerbed, in order to have an idea of how the curb tape will be installed. Photos of various options for such structures can be found in magazines about landscape design. You can think up and something of your own, suitable for the general mood for the design of the site or garden, to make the most of its useful area. If you plan to plant annuals, then you can cut the tape by 10 centimeters, for perennial plants it is better to cut it by 20. The contours of the contour are created due to the driven pegs. For installation, two people are needed - one pulls the tape, and the second tightly pours it on the ground.

If the length is not enough, by the end of one roll with a hot soldering iron you can weld the beginning of the next one. If it remains unnecessary, the plastic can easily be cut with a garden pruner or large scissors.
