Replacing the mixer in the kitchen with your own hands

If you leak a faucet in the kitchen or attracted a new model of sanitary ware in the store, you will inevitably encounter the problem of how to change the mixer In-house. Of course, you can call a specialist and not try to learn the basics of this process on your own. However, if you want to save your money and do not depend on plumbers, the advice given in the material will surely help you.

Preparing to install the mixer

First of all, it is necessary to block the flow of water (both cold and hot), for which to turn the main valve on the riser. Then it is necessary to release the remaining water from the tap. Before the installation of the mixer in the kitchen begins, the old one needs to be dismantled. The mixer can become attached to the sink due to prolonged use. Dismantle it carefully so as not to damage the kitchen equipment. First, you should apply detergent chemical to the place where the mixer comes into contact with the sink. Wait ten to fifteen minutes.

If you plan to replace the hoses, then they should be disconnected from the pipeline. And in the event that you are going to limit yourself only to reinstalling the mixer, then the hoses are disconnected from it. To replace the mixer in an organized way, care must be taken to ensure that the necessary tools are available: for example, a wrench and a wrench.

Most often, mixers are attached in two ways. On a broad base, they begin to dismantle from the parsing of the handles. They must be removed, remove the gaskets and unscrew the nuts that secure the mixer. On a narrow base, the mixers are attached from the bottom of the sink. To dismantle the old plumbing will need pliers or a wrench. You also need a Phillips screwdriver. It removes the fixing screw from the bottom of the sink, after which the fastening plate is removed, allowing the mixer to be pulled out with hoses.

After the nuts are unscrewed, the old mixer can be pulled out of the sink. Do not forget to replace the old gasket, which is located between the sink and the mixer. It can be carefully removed using a knife. After that, you should clean the lime scale accumulated under the mixer. To do this, you can use detergents or sandpaper.

Installing a new mixer

Quality replacement of the mixer requires sealing. For this purpose, a sealing material is wound on the thread of the crane (patella). Do this by rotating the nut. After sealing, the thread resembles a cone. As insurance, the patella can be covered with hermetic paste intended for threaded connections.

With the wide base of the new mixer it is put in place, then the gaskets are set and the nuts are manually nailed. With a narrow base, the installation process will not be much different from the one described above. But in this case, the sealant is applied to the base of the mixer before replacing it. It's good if you have an assistant who can hold and align the faucet while you work under the sink. By connecting the hoses that can be used both old and taken from the purchased kit, you need to install a gasket on the wash hole. The second is installed from the bottom of the sink. Fix the fixing washer with a screw, but do not wrap it until the end.

After the mixer is replaced, it must be leveled, and tighten the nuts with a wrench. The base should be greased with a sealant, install a patch and handles. Before using the mixer it is necessary to remove the remnants of the sealant at its base. It is recommended to open the water for a few minutes, so that it rinses the dirt and check if there is any leakage.

Having become acquainted with the practical advice collected in the material, it can be concluded that replacing the mixer is not so difficult, it is possible to cope with it independently without calling a specialist.
