Reducing the loops with knitting needles on the head: we knit the headgear correctly

Many novice craftsmen learn to knit (with spokes or crochet), making scarves or simply flat cloths. This is logical and fully justified, but sooner or later they have to get acquainted with other techniques, such as shortening and adding loops, forming humeral bevels and necks, shortened rows and other "delights." It can not be said that this is simple and affordable for everyone, because only the most persevering girls with well-developed spatial thinking can really knit.

Specificity of hats

Having mastered all the necessary techniques, you can start making such products as sweaters, sweaters, dresses and, of course, hats. To knit headgear, you should carefully study how the knitting of the loops occurs. On a hat, only if it is not a simple "stocking", there should be a rounded top. In addition, it should be connected symmetrically, avoiding the formation of folds or protruding cones.

How are the simplest caps made?

The basic algorithm should be considered on the example of a product made of thick yarn, shown in the photo below.

This cap is connected by a facial smoothness, and that the cloth is not twisted, the belt is made by a handkerchief pattern. The usual size of the cap is 55-57 cm in diameter and 17-20 cm in height. The main cloth is knitted exactly (if it does not take), and then begins to narrow.

The reduction of the loops with knitting needles on the cap is carried out when the part is about 12-15 cm in height. Traditionally, the cuts are made in six rows of the row, adhering to the following sequence:

  • Choose six loops along which the decrease will occur, and mark with markers. They should be distributed evenly around the row.
  • Each front row: knit the fabric with facial loops, before (or after) the marked loop the two elements are tied together.

If the skilled worker has chosen a thin thread for work, then the reduction of the loops with knitting needles on the cap is made both before and after the marked loop. Thus, twelve loops are cut, and not six. As an option, you can reduce only one side, but in each row, not just in the face.

  • When the number of loops is reduced to 6-10, they should be tightened with a strong thread and finish knitting. If you try to cut them further, you can get a protruding tip.

The described method should be studied by the craftsmen before knitting the cap with circular knitting needles.

Working with an openwork pattern

In the photo below you can see a very beautiful autumn-spring cap, bound by an openwork pattern.

For work, a medium-thickness yarn was used. Here it will not be possible to knit in a circle, only straight and return rows can be applied. The lower edge of the cap is connected by an elastic band, so that the product is closer to the head, and the ears were covered with a thick (and not openwork) cloth. Next, an ornament is used, the outline of which is set out below (the left part of the figure).

Depending on the thickness of the yarn, you must repeat the rapport two, three or even four times. To get such a cap, as in the photo, from the typing edge to the beginning of reduction should be tied about 20-22 cm If you make a canvas 12-15 cm high, then the product will fit tightly the head, and the crown will not hang.

How nice to take off the hinges on the hat with an openwork pattern?

The most difficult thing with reducing loops is that the foreman must preserve the beauty of the pattern and at the same time get an accurate rounding of the bottom of the cap. For many patterns, these are incompatible concepts, and therefore they often resort to such methods:

  • Work according to the scheme drawn up by the designer.
  • They knit the top with a simpler pattern.
  • Just collect all the loops in a bundle and fix the thread.

The last two methods are fairly simple, but these headgear are not very neat. Of course, reducing the loops with knitting needles on the hat is not for the faint-hearted, but the professionals, as you know, do not seek easy ways.

The scheme (in the figure on the right) was developed taking into account the structural features of the cap. Following it, you can get a cap of the right shape.

Knitting hats with jacquard

It's a shame, but knowing how to loosen loops on a hat does little to help with jacquard ornaments. In this case, the master only has to look for a special scheme.

The photo below shows an excellent version of this design.

Here, the saturation and density of the pattern remain, and the bottom of the article is rounded.

The designer recommends, after knitting several rows of facial smoothness, to add two loops per rapport, since jacquards can slightly tighten the fabric (because of the draws of threads on the wrong side).

It is important: before work it is desirable to tie a control sample and find out the density of knitting of your canvas. This will avoid an unpleasant situation, when suddenly it is discovered that the pattern is only connected halfway, and the cap is longer than necessary.
