On our planet there is a huge number of places, about which legends form. One of them is the Red Lake in Romania. This common at first sight reservoir has long been dubbed a "killer", having associated with it many mystical stories. Where is the lake? Than it is remarkable?

Red Lake in Romania

The mountain lake is located in the north-eastern part of the country, near the Bicaz gorge. The length of the coastline is almost three kilometers, so it can be easily bypassed in an hour. This is a natural lake, which was formed without human intervention.

Compared with many other water bodies of the Earth, it is quite young. Often, the formation of lakes go tens, hundreds of thousands, and even millions of years. The Red Lake in Romania appeared only in 1837. Probably, that's why there are so many legends about him.

One of them says that before there was a large pasture here. Once during a thunderstorm, local shepherds were killed along with the sheep. Part of the rock broke off, blocking the river, and the pasture filled with water. The next morning the villagers saw a lake red from the blood of the dead.

Although formed a reservoir really after a heavy rainfall and a collapse of the rock, the water itself is in it of ordinary color. But the soil around is red. Its particles fall into the water with the wind, giving it a slightly purple hue. In Romanian the water object is called Laku-Roshu, which literally translates as "Lake Krasnoe". The depth of the reservoir is only ten meters, and its shape is stretched and resembles the Russian letter "G".

Legend of the beautiful girl

What is the story without a beautiful girl and a boy in love with her? If the first legend is realistic and, in principle, could turn out to be true, then the second story is more romantic. It is her who is often told tourists who came here.

She tells of a young beauty Esther, who fell in love with an equally handsome guy. This love was very strong, and most importantly - mutual. The young man also was crazy about Esther and even suggested to her. But not everything is so smooth. Right before the wedding, the guy was taken into the army.

She was seriously distressed. She often came to a mountain river to be alone and think about her beloved. One evening she saw a robber. He was struck by the beauty of the girl and immediately offered her a hand and heart. The robber promised to take her to the mansion and give him expensive clothes and jewels.

Esther refused, therefore, without thinking twice, he stole it. The girl did not want to be with the unloved. She began to ask the rocks for help, and they obeyed. The mountains began to shake, huge stones collapsed, falling asleep robber and Esther. At the same time, they blocked the course of the river, and formed a small lake.

Bicaz canyon

Not far from the lake is the Bikaz gorge. It appeared due to the river of the same name, from the sleeve of which the Red Lake was formed. Bicaz is the longest and deepest gorge in all of Romania. It connects its two provinces: Moldova and Transylvania.

Inside the gorge along the river stretches the road. It is extremely beautiful and exciting. High narrow rocks hang over a narrow asphalt strip. The river paved its way not directly, it often wriggled and turned back, so the road twists like a streamer.

Approximately six and a half hectares of land around the gorge enter the protected area. There are many interesting species of animals. In the rivers there is a trout, and in the rocks themselves there is a rare local bird - the red-winged stenoclast.

The steep mountains of Bikaz are very popular with rock climbers, but for tourists of other rank there is something to see. So, for example, you can see the cave of the Waterfall and the Black Cave. And finally get to the top of Sukhardul Mik, located directly above Lake Krasnaya in Romania.

A popular place

Due to its not very typical origin, the lake became a real highlight of the country. He is popularized, and legends about him are cherished and actively disseminated among visitors. Not far from the pond is a lot of tents with souvenirs, restaurants and cafes, hotels.

The very place where the lake is located, has a charm and is covered with a flash of mystery. This is not surprising, because it is surrounded by the Carpathian Mountains, overgrown with coniferous trees. When the lake was formed, the banks of the river flooded, and part of the forest was submerged.

Trees firmly hold on to the bottom of the reservoir, and the fragments of their trunks peek out. It's just not worth swimming here. However, traveling by boat is quite feasible. Through the efforts of local travel agencies, all conditions are created for this.
