Rebecca Dautremer - illustrator of children's books: biography, creativity

The importance of illustrations in the children's book is difficult to overestimate: they develop imagination, a sense of beauty, increase the mood of the young and adults. The first acquaintance with the world of literature occurs on the day when the child first opens a children's book and begins to dive into the world of fantasy and fairy tales. This is a very important point that can determine in the future whether the kid is interested in literature or not. Children's attention immediately finds pictures in the book, and therefore they must be the personification of goodness, beauty and happiness.

Today it will be about this talented artist, creating magic in the pages of books - Rebecca Dautremer (Rebecca Dautremer), one of the most famous contemporary illustrators in France.

The beginning of the way

Rebecca was born in 1971, in the small town of Gap on the slopes of the French Alps. Not to say that the artist has been interested in brush and paint since childhood. According to her own confessions, Rebecca began to engage in visual arts for children's books almost by accident.

In dreams to become the schedule, the Frenchman arrives in the Higher state school of decorative arts. As a simple student, Rebecca Dotremer, in search of work-in-time, arranges for the publishing house Gautier-Languereau, where at that time she needed specialists for creative coloring books, decals and decals. There was nothing to do: students want to eat. Only after many years the artist realized that this was her vocation.

The heyday of a career. Equipment

The start, which began so suddenly, gave the opportunity to Rebecca's talent to blossom fluffy colors, both on pages of books and in life. The artist herself says that she was just lucky with the publishers, but the truth is that the Frenchwoman does not take uniqueness. Rebecca Dotremer works with gouache on watercolor paper to achieve blurred smooth lines. Light gentle strokes create the illusion of 3D, and bright saturated colors immerse deeply into the image. Over each of his paintings, the illustrator works very carefully and with all his heart, applying for inspiration to his own family, photos, art and music.

The artist attaches great importance to the philosophical original story, not allowing Disney templates and frames. Her art touches the depths of the soul even the most experienced critic. In her account 30 years of creative career. At the moment, the artist is not only an illustrator of children's books, she writes books, creates graphic masterpieces for advertising (for example, for the perfumed Kenzo series) and continues to improve her talents.

Princesses

Biography Rebecca Dotremer as a real artist begins in 2003, when she receives an order to illustrate the book "Princess Unknown and Forgotten." For the sake of justice, it is worth noting that the artist agreed without much pleasure. However, hardly having started to work, the Frenchwoman immediately began to actively cooperate with the author of the book, creating a wonderful creative tandem.

On each page of the book is the touching story of the princess, her experiences, the formation of her life path, her habits and, of course, her portrait. All the paintings are made in one style and convey the mood of the character very subtly. The very message of the book is fascinating, original, different from everything that Western civilization is creating now. The responses were excellent: just a week after the release of the edition, all the books from the stores were sold out!

Alice in Wonderland

Rebecca Dotremer started her work on "Alice in Wonderland" in 2010. From that moment a new stage of the artist's creativity began. Before the beginning of the work, according to the artist's recognition, she was not lucky to read Lewis Carroll, and the impression of the work was spoiled by the Disney cartoon about the adventures of a curious and mischievous little girl. Illustrator for a long time wondered what the main character of her fairy tale should look like, and only after a while, finding the right image, she began to create. But from that moment the work went like clockwork.

Black-haired sheared Alice struck the audience. Many decided that Rebecca portrays a self-portrait, giving the character her feelings and experiences. Anyway, gentlemen, maybe they prefer blondes, but the talented artist saw the classic story in her own way and did not fail: the book turned out to be truly magical!

Cyrano

The artist worked not only on the immortal monuments of literature. Tandem with her husband - contemporary writer Tayem Mark Le Than - brought fruit. The family chose for their creative project the play "Cyrano de Bergerac". The husband adapted the text, and the spouse completed her main task - illustrated the book.

It should be noted that the text itself turned out to be sarcastic and cheerful, but Rebecca Dotremer's illustrations retained their philosophical overtones and even some gloominess. Such an artistic method gave the book a unique character: the old story played with new colors from the palette of the French talent.

Cartoon

In 2011, the artist acted as the art director of the cartoon called Kerity - la maison des Contes ("Keriti, the home of fairy tales"). The cartoon turned out very elegant and kind. Delicate colors and cute characters will not leave indifferent neither small nor adults. At the moment, the family creative union is working on a new cartoon, which can not but rejoice the fans. This direction is still new for the artist, however talented Rebecca will soon present children with many new interesting stories.

Le petit théâtre de Rébecca

Making an attempt to go beyond the role of the illustrator of children's books (and, I must say, successful) in 2011, the artist releases her "Little Rebecca Theater." The work became the quintessence of the work of the Frenchwoman and brought her astounding success.

The book is a small representation: the characters are carved from the smallest details that can be superimposed on each other, creating their own fairy tale. All the characters Rebecca painted herself, they are collected in one book. Alice, Boy-with-finger, Cyrano, Baba-yaga - the whole company in the collection. Each page is a scene and a house for a certain character, who has his own history, thoughts, experiences and charm.

The one who opens the book, will become the director of the theatrical performance (this must be someone for at least five years) - the tale begins to come alive in front of the reader.

This creative approach develops imagination, abstract thinking and instills love for the book from the very youngest years. This is a great entertainment for a good family night. And what could be more beautiful in our troubled times?

Baby pictures or art?

Many accuse Rebecca of being too gloomy and eccentric. Others say that her occupation can not be called high art. Perhaps the illustrations of the artist in the Louvre do not yet hang, but they forever settle in the soul of a small reader. Opening the book with the pictures of the artist, you find yourself in an uncharted, magical, sincere, filled with light and feelings world. The world that little pioneers deserve!

Parents, looking closely at her work, understand one thing: in the world of advertising and falsity, the artist's pictures are like a breath of fresh air. Her work is full of genuine sincerity and beauty. They are filled with profound philosophical meaning, sometimes with light sadness, but always with a great pure and tender love for the world around them, for life itself. Rebecca was able to win the trust of many children and adults, becoming one of the most famous French artists of our time.
