Agronomists of the All-Union Selection and Technical Institute of Horticulture for selection have chosen the old, beloved by many a sort of domestic origin "fast-moving", and a pair for it became the West European "Ullens' Renclode". The hybrid has turned out to be more than successful and is still popular only among amateur gardeners, and the fishers do not. Why? We will describe in the future the content.

The variety is different in size. The tree of an adult plum can grow up to six meters, its crown is dense, spreading in measure, has an oval shape. Shoots are painted in a dark brown color, glabrous, on the side of them are located loosely pressed buds.

The leaves have a dark green color. Their shape is oval, elongated. The surface is smooth, glossy, small petioles, distinct teeth.

Plum "egg blue" dissolves in mid-May beautiful flowers, which are located only on annual shoots. Flowers are white, large, have oval shaped petals, collected in small brushes. If frosts are expected during the flowering of the plum, then one can not worry. Flowers and buds of the variety are well suited to lowering the temperature to -4 degrees. Harvest can be harvested from the middle of August, the peak of ripening falls on the last days of summer.

With due care, the plum tree of "egg blue" will live up to thirty years, and bear fruit will be stable, starting from the fifth year of growth.

Fruits and their taste

The variety got its name because of the shape of the berries. They are round, like chicken eggs, dense and smooth to the touch. The skin is strong, it may seem dense, in fact it is soft and when eaten, it is practically not perceptible. The color of the fruit is blue, on the surface of the peel there is a small amount of plaque white, and it seems that the berries are covered with hoarfrost.

The flesh has a beautiful yellow color, it is very juicy, sweet, the acid contains little. Inside is a small oval bone, it is quite simply separated from the fetus. If the berry is fully ripe, the bone itself exfoliates.

The average weight of one plum is about thirty-five grams. The berries are even, all of the same size. The aroma is not bright, but palpable.

Productivity

Plum "egg blue", the description of the variety of which is given above, is not very productive. As we have already said, an adult plant grows to six meters, and from it you can take off only twelve kilograms of fruits per year. The first crop appears five to six years after planting. Dignity of the variety in self-fertilization, it does not require pollinators.

Winters bear quite simply a plum "egg blue". The kidneys will not suffer even if the temperature drops to -35 degrees. Heat does not tolerate a good grade. In the dry season and with the stably "roasting" sun, the tree needs extra moisture. It will need to be watered and moistened with foliage by spraying from a hose or special system.

The cultivar is cultivated by horticulturists, who use fruits for personal consumption. Industrial agricultural companies do not deal with this variety, because it is not productive.

Advantages and disadvantages

Like any culture, plum "egg blue" has its good qualities and not very much. What can be attributed to the pluses?

  • Fertility.
  • High winter hardiness.
  • Good transportability.
  • Sweet, bright taste of fruits.

From the minuses of the grade, we distinguish:

  • Low yield;
  • Height of the tree.

Apparently, the plum can be grown for itself. Jams, compotes, jellies are obtained from fruits unusually tasty, beautiful. In plums, a lot of vitamins, and in fresh form fruits are consumed "with a bang." The tree will become an ornament of the site, especially it is beautiful and fragrant in the flowering period.

Land for planting

Plum sort "egg blue" likes well-lit places, it is afraid of winds and excessive moisture. It is necessary to choose a place for planting, where ground waters pass not less than one and a half meters underground. It is recommended that the plant be planted on the south side of the house so that the wall protects from the wind, and the place has been illuminated for as long as possible by the sun.

The ideal soil quality is loam with high calcium content and low acidity. If there is acidification, then neutralization is necessary.

Site preparation

As the folk wisdom says, prepare a sleigh from the summer! Let's change it a bit and say: prepare the site for planting from autumn. At the selected site, it is necessary to dig a pit with an average depth of 60 centimeters, the diameter should be from 70 to 80 centimeters. The excavated soil should be well sprinkled, the lumps are crushed, liming is carried out. At the bottom of the finished pit you need to pour half a kilo of ash wood. After that, the prepared place should be buried back, but the soil seized during excavation should be enriched. To do this, mix it with the overgrown manure or compost, enough will be two buckets, add one hundred grams of potassium superphosphate and a pound of superphosphate.

Landing

When choosing a seedling, pay attention to its condition. There should be no traces from diseases or pests, the stem should have a label from the vaccine. The roots of the seedlings must be strong, without rot and withered particles.

Before planting, it is necessary to immerse the roots in water for six hours, then treat it with a growth stimulator so that the young tree quickly takes root and forms a strong root system.

Plant a plum before the moment of bud budding, that is, in the early spring, when all the snow has not yet melted. In the prepared area for planting, it is necessary to dig a hole, place in it a tall, sturdy peg, followed by a seedling, gently plunging into the ground, sprinkling. The plant should be placed so that its root neck is four centimeters from the ground. Only so the tree will develop well.

After the main work is done, do the following: tie the seedling to the established peg, around them, prophesy a trench for a more convenient watering so that the water does not spread out to the sides. Soil around the planting should be covered with peat or sawdust for two centimeters. Spread abundantly the seedling.

Aftercare

In the year of planting we need weeding and loosening, the main concerns will begin with the next season. What will you need to do?

At the beginning and end of June, nitrogen fertilizing is required for the tree. For the third and fourth year, the following plan of fertilizer activities is needed:

  • Top dressing in May - three large spoons of urea on a bucket of water;
  • In June - the same amount of nitrofoski per bucket of water;
  • In August - potassium sulfate and superphosphate in the same volumes.

For the fifth year, the fertilizer is produced with the same fertilizers and in the same order, only the scheme will be as follows: the first - before flowering, the second - during the ripening of plums, the third - at the end of the season after harvesting.

It is also necessary to stably produce loosening of the soil around the tree, eliminating weed grass that takes up nutrients, watering, mulching to conserve the necessary amount of moisture.

The very first pruning is performed immediately after planting the plant. It is necessary to remove all unnecessary branches, leaving about ten strongest and strongest. This will be the basis of the crown of your future tree.

When trimming, do not act chaotically, it is impossible that the branches grow in disorder, avoid thickening the crown, this will lead to a lack of light for the fruit.

In the spring, all the foul, frozen and dried shoots are eliminated. Good growth should be shortened.

Rodents are very fond of plum bark, so it is necessary to protect it. To ensure that the teeth of rabbits and other pests do not reach the trunk, wrap it with a polymer mesh. Do not forget about preventive spraying from diseases and harmful insects.
