Pineal gland cyst. Causes, symptoms, complications and treatment

The pineal gland "hides" under the large hemispheres and has a weight not more than a tenth of a gram, and the length is less than a centimeter. Despite such a small size, it is very important for the functioning of the entire human body. Why?

Iron produces a millionth of a gram of hormone melatonin, which can slow aging, increase resistance to many diseases, it also controls the rhythm of the day. It is he who determines the characteristics of puberty, and also gives a feeling of happiness and peace. But the performance of these important functions can sometimes be hampered by the appearance of the pineal gland cyst, which occurs for the following reasons:

  • There may be problems with a violation of outflow of melatonin from the "house" if the duct is blocked. In this regard, the secret is constantly accumulating, and the cells begin to form a tissue, from which sooner or later the pineal gland cyst will form.
  • Neoplasm can arise due to the presence of echinococcus, a parasite that in the human body lays its eggs. But the larvae "climb" into the gland. They, trying to protect themselves from the body's immune forces, begin to form a rigid shell around themselves. As a result, the "cocoon" is gradually filled with products of their vital activity, rapidly increasing in size. As a result of this process, the pineal gland is damaged.

The cyst can continue to grow. If it reaches a size of about half a centimeter, then only then does the patient begin to experience any unpleasant sensations. Neoplasm of a smaller size, as a rule, does not bother a person. The fact is that its presence can not be detected by external signs. There are, however, rare headaches and slight dizziness, but otherwise the pathology about itself practically does not "state".

The cyst of the pineal gland of the indicated size leads to the appearance of vomiting, agonizing headaches, the inability to perceive bright light and a large number of people. Strengthening of these symptoms speaks about its growth.

Identify the presence of neoplasm can only be using a magnetic resonance tomograph. But after its detection it is recommended to check at least 2 times a year to track changes and availability of increases. The fact is that there is no cure for the pineal gland cyst. Treatment with medications is usually aimed at eliminating the main causes of its appearance. Nothing else is done in ordinary situations.

Also, the occurrence of an arachnoid cyst of the pineal gland is not dangerous. Usually it is not treated, but simply controlled, since there is no harm to the life and health of the patient.

In the same case, if the neoplasm begins to grow and press on the nearest parts of the brain, it is usually decided to remove it surgically. But this direction can only give an experienced neurosurgeon.

Great fear causes the cyst, if it provokes the appearance of hydrocephalus, in which there is accumulation of fluid in the ventricles of the brain. As a result, blood pressure in the vessels rises, a person can sooner or later fall into a lethargic sleep or to whom. Therefore, when the final diagnosis is made, it is usually decided to remove the cyst.

But we must bear in mind that, despite the high level of development of medical science throughout the world, brain surgery is one of the most difficult and risky. Therefore, specialists strive to avoid surgical intervention, using a more "harmless" conservative medical treatment, which is aimed at eliminating the above causes of the formation of the pineal gland cyst.
