Pear "Victoria" features and subtleties of growing seedlings

Variety of pears Victoria breeders discovered by conducting research in the Institute of Irrigated Horticulture (Ukraine, Melitopol). A group of scientists suggested that having crossed the variety of the autumn southerner Bere Boska and Tolstobyozhka, you can get a new shape with unique characteristics. Research has met expectations, and the derived variety has successfully taken root - this is a typical type of pear for the Moscow region.

After carrying out the trial trials, Victoria pear won an honorable place among the cultures of the State Register of the North Caucasus region. And today, the garden beauties of the Forest Beauty prefer Victoria, as the maturation period for these varieties is about the same, and the taste and agrotechnical characteristics of the second significantly dominate the first, which explains the popularity of the species.

Main characteristics of the variety

Trees of the named variety have a height of up to 4 m. The shape of the crown is pyramidal. The color of the fruit is yellow-red, the flesh is white. The mass of pears, on average, is 200-370 g. Yield is high.

Botanical certificate of garden culture

The fruits of the pear differ in size, regular and even pear-shaped. The skin is smooth, in the process of maturing yellowing, with a bright blush on more than half of the fruit. Sometimes spots of orzhavlennosti are noticeable. There are many small subcutaneous points, they are easy to see.

The fetal structure is tender, homogeneous. Petrified cells are absent. Pulp is white with a gentle pleasant taste, sometimes with sourness. One pear can store up to 8% of sugars and 0.35% of acids.

Interesting! Sometimes fruits without seeds are formed. This phenomenon is called parthenocarpie.

The shape of the tree is pyramidal. Pear Victoria mostly fructifies on the rings. With relatively rapid ripeness, the vegetation period comes later, compared with other varieties, so the trees do not lend themselves to repeated frosts.

Terms of ripening of the harvest

Starting from the second decade of August, the harvest ripens, and closer to the middle of September it acquires technical ripeness. Victoria's pears sit tightly on a long peduncle, because they do not crumble from the tree. Commodity and transportability of fruit is high.

Victoria, as for the summer pear variety, has excellent shelf life: fruits can be stored under normal conditions for up to 30 days, and in a cool room for up to 120 days. Yields from trees are high - up to 200 kg per season. It is interesting that its indices do not decrease with the age of the tree, as happens in other varieties.

Pollinators and the subtleties of caring for trees

After pollination, a rather large number of ovaries are formed in Victoria's pear. The variety description emphasizes the ability of the tree to self-pollinate. Despite this, in order to maintain the yield, it is desirable to have additional pollinators. For Victoria fit: William red, Nicholas Krueger, Triumph of Vienne.

The fruit form is complex-resistant, it shows excellent resistance to pathogens such diseases as scab, moniliosis, powdery mildew. Such characteristics of the plant allow you to carry out only 1-2 sanitary treatments of a tree (seedlings) per year.

Adult trees are very resistant to frost, but in the first few years of life of young seedlings they must be sheltered for the winter. A distinctive feature of garden culture is its resistance to heat and drought.

This is a culture that grows in the steppe zone with risky farming, where drought often occurs for several months, and the heat reaches a temperature above 30 degrees. In such conditions, only a few varieties of pears can fully develop, because, as you know, this culture loves moisture. Growing in this region, some of the plants need partial shade.

Unlike other varieties of pears, Victoria easily tolerates extreme climatic conditions. Despite this, the irrigation system must be taken care of necessarily. One of the economical options is drip irrigation. Sometimes gardeners resort to the use of a hydrodrill. Sprinkling for trees is also useful.

In general, the near-trench primer is useful for mulching. So, in the winter it will be possible to avoid freezing of the root system, in the summer - from excessive evaporation of moisture and growth of weed plants. The composition of the mulch should include: peat, compost, mown grass, siderata, etc. The mixture is spread out, wrapping each of the trunks with a layer of at least 5 cm.

Stamps and skeletal branches are whitewashed twice a year. To do this, make a solution of lime and copper sulfate, if you want, use a special paint.

Saplings: features of planting and reproduction

Described trees are characterized by low rate of early fertility. The first crop appears 6-7 years after planting the seedlings in a permanent place. This trend clearly demonstrates the affinity with the quince stock.

After inoculation, as a result, small pears are obtained, which become fruiting faster than those grafted onto the seedlings.

Planting is as follows: pear seedlings Victoria is placed in prepared wells and slightly raised. Make sure that after the shrinkage of the soil, the root collar of the seedlings is above the ground level.

Care for Victoria's pear includes pruning trees in spring. The procedure is done after the first few days with plus temperatures, but until the leaves blossom.

The opinion of gardeners

As noted by gardeners, significant flaws in the pear variety for the suburbs are not found. Fruiting is stable and abundant. Harvest, as a rule, is large, and pears have excellent taste qualities.

Gardeners say that the level of resistance to adverse factors and diseases is high, which is unusual for this crop of garden crops.

Regarding the cultivation of the Victoria pear, the testimonies indicate that the point planting of this crop is most characteristic of our region.

As you can see, the described variety, rotated by many gardeners, took root in the middle zone of Russia and fell in love with the owners. Planting such fruit trees, you do not have to worry about their condition, because the rules of care are minimized, and diseases and pests practically do not damage the pear Victoria. The description of the variety, given in the article, will help you to decide on the choice of seedlings for the fruit garden.
