Patriarchal Gardens, Vladimir: address, mode of work, reviews

Where to go in Vladimir? This wonderful ancient city has a very rich culture and history. One of its attractions are the Patriarchal Gardens. Vladimir in the XII century took many immigrants from the south, and the founder of the city became Andrei Bogolyubsky. It was these immigrants who brought here such a garden culture as a cherry tree.

History of occurrence

Four centuries ago in Vladimir there was no special place where the clergy could gather and rest from the capital. Specially for this was planted a cherry orchard. They brought this fruitful culture from Georgia, before that it did not grow here. Cherries here are so established and fruitful that the berries were even taken to sell to Moscow. Cherry orchards grew over time and became an ornament of Vladimir. One can only imagine this beauty in the spring when they blossomed! Suburbs were like big villages. These gardens occupied a large area of both the city itself and the nearby land. Bishop Xenophon was engaged in the cultivation of gardens. His mansion was all planted with trees. These cherry plantings were called the Patriarchal Gardens. Later Xenophon planted next to the cherry and other types of fruit trees.

Dyakon Alexey Vasilievich - keeper of the gardens

Once Xenophon Troepolsky went to the village of Andreevskoe, which is not far from Vladimir. It was by accident that he saw a marvelous garden there. It turned out that it was the garden of one local priest, Father Basil, who was very fond of gardening. Xenophon was simply amazed by one of the varieties of apple trees, the fruits of which became transparent after maturation. Then he decided that it was Father Vasily who should be engaged in the bishop's gardens in Vladimir. But he was already in his old age and could not accept the invitation, but sent there his son, Alexei Vasilyevich. In Vladimir, he was immediately taken into deacons in one of the churches. Alexei Vasilievich was able to bring the gardens in excellent condition, they just transformed the city. He also ennobled the plantations in the neighboring villages, but, unfortunately, they have not survived to this day.

The fate of gardens in the XX century

There was nobody to look after and look after the trees. Many of them were frozen, many - dried up. In these terrible years, a wonderful garden turned into a city dump.
