Parquet varnish: types and features

Today, parquet flooring is used to protect the parquet floor from external influences, as well as to give it shine and beauty. Thanks to the coating of the surface with a special compound, its service life is significantly increased, and the performance characteristics are also improved.

The technology of applying a varnish coating is not too complicated, and anyone can learn it. To cover the parquet with varnish, it is necessary to perform a series of successive actions, since only in this case the result will be reliable and qualitative.

So, first of all it is necessary to polish the parquet with a special disk machine to make it perfectly smooth. After that, you should fill all the seams and clean the surface of all sorts of debris. Before applying parquet varnish, the whole surface of the floor should be treated with a primer, so that the adhesion of the base material to the surface will be greatly improved. After the primer varnish has dried, it is possible to apply a varnish for a parquet board.

Today practically in any construction shop you can easily purchase a parquet lacquer product, however, before making a choice, it is necessary to take into account a sufficient number of factors. For example, a variety of used wood, the strength of mechanical loads on the parquet, the desired color and, of course, the cost of the lacquer material and its consumption.

Considering the above, it should be noted that parquet lacquers can be of four types: water-based (water-based), polyurethane, varnish with an artificial oil resin or with a special acid hardener. Let's consider each of the types of this material in more detail.

Lacquer parquet water has no sharp odor, it is distinguished by high fire resistance and ecological compatibility. In addition, it dries very quickly. Due to its properties, it is used for covering parquet in residential premises. However, there are also disadvantages: varnish is unstable to chemicals and may not be suitable for some types of wood.

Parquet varnish with artificial oil resins is used mainly for the restoration of old coatings, because due to the formation of a dense oily film, it improves the appearance of the worn floor. It has a very strong smell, therefore it is mainly used in public premises.

Polyurethane lacquer is the most widely used and effective. It has a high abrasion resistance and resistance to mechanical and chemical influences. The varnish allows the surface not to lose its natural shade and give it the right shade. This material dries out within six hours. And since it has a rather sharp smell, work with it should be worn by means of protection.

Parquet acid lacquer. It is a mixture of varnish and hardener - an unpretentious material with an acid hardener. It does not require preliminary priming, has high resistance and is completely insensitive to moisture and temperature changes.

Thus, when choosing parquet lacquer, you should consult a professional. Managers of building stores will always help the client choose the most suitable type of product and tell about the features of its application to the surface.
